The Official Nintendo DS Thread

OMW the flash carts have come down so hectically...
Check on extremeshop.co.za there's even a cart for R62.
And the same M3 DS Real I got for R500 a year or 2 ago is R215 now.

PS. Guess who's back on the DS scene :p

The best place to look for flashcarts is www.bidorbuy.co.za

You can get an R4 for about R200 - R300 if you're lucky ;)

I have been using a R4 SDHC without any major troubles (Well, R4 has been discontinued years ago - most R4's are fakes these days)

I do however have a problem with Mario & Luigi - Bowser's inside story. It wont let me save the game :(

Have you tried trimming the rom?

@bradrap Yes I did trim and patch the rom - still the same result :(

@Dr@g0nic My problem with extremeshop.co.za at the moment is the amount of time it takes to deliver your order. Yes, I know they import all their stuff and they have a huge range of stuff but I'd rather pay a bit more and get what I want now... BTW, they aren't currently processing any orders because of the problems they have with the post office. I can't figure out why they don't make use of a courier service...

Oh wow... thats bad... ad yeah I understand your point. What R4 dicontinued? so those cheap R4s are fakes?
My M3 is all good... since I got a DS again yesterday I have alot of catching up to do... going to try and finish castlevania: OoE. Then gonna try out this GTA and Scribblenuats(lol my friend is hooked)

@4ss4ssN

The only other option I can see is for you to try the YSMenu firmware (similar to fake 1.19 R4 afaik). There are various guides available to get it to work on the R4 but the only problem is it might require a bit more effort than what you're used to and it doesn't look as good as the R4DS menu.

@Dr@g0nic
Yes, all R4's you buy these days are fake. They are being reproduced by some Chinese group and the interface looks crappy - but hey it's relatively cheap and plays most games! GTA is good and Scribblenauts will blow your mind...

@bradrap
I have actually tried using YSMenu with DSision2 with little success. The process is overly complicated and after numerous attempts I found out on some other forum that SDHC is not officially supported. I use a R4 with a 16GB micro SDHC card which causes the screw up. And by no means does the R4 menu look good in any case ;)

Is anybody else as psyched about the new Pokemon? I can't wait for it to be released in English! I have been playing Pokemon for years and I don't care what anybody says - it's still a bloody awesome game!

The other game I'm really looking forward to is the Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes game that releases mid December... I have been a huge fan of the series and will definitely try this one out!

I wanna play GTA just for the fact that there's a Dopewars mini game(ROFL I type Mini Game together and it changes to mi****me) hehe. And Scribblenauts... yeah I'm sure it will... just seeing how my friend went on last night... haha... the crap he thought up to solve puzzles OMW...

If you're into music or making music, you should try the KORG-DS10 Synthesizer. Keeps me entertained for hours xD

@Dr@g0nic Some fun things to try in Scribblenauts - Jetpack, Amish, Hill Billy, Black Hole, Nuclear Bomb and mayonnaise :)

@bradrap I have actually been playing with the KORG synthesizer but yet again, my flash cart won't allow me to save anything. This means that all my hard work goes to waste, but it's still pretty fun!

Mayonnaise??? ROFL WTF!? Lol yeah my friend has use the jetpack a few times, and also a magic carpet lol...

mmm another friend of mine will love this KORG app. I'll get it.

Moving in a completely different direction - have any of you guys ever had to deal with Nintendo SA? I had to send in my DS Lite for repairs a month or so ago and I was amazed at the excellent service I received!

I had a really minor issue with the top part which never "clicked" into place when opened. So the top screen was wiggly and felt loose. Nintendo arranged to pick up the DS, repair it and return it at absolutely no cost! They even gave me a new GBA slot cover as I lost mine a while ago... Although the DS was not fixed 100% (still felt a bit loose) there was some improvement and regarding that it was done for free I can't really complain :)

Its good to hear.. Normally when you send a device into service they take ages... (Nokia for example) and half the time they dont even solve the problem!

But im glad there are still companies out there that actually care..

BTW, im hopefully getting my R4DS on Wednesday.. Anyone have one? Thoughts on it?

Well I bought a R4i or something on Bidorbuy for like R100, hope its legit though, < for my DSi.

BTW: The DSi, OWNS, the matte surface is crazy nice to grip, my sister will be coming back from Canada in March, so whoever wants one @ Canadian price + R500 just scream.

@dayav07 Like I said in a previous post, there are no real R4's currently on the market. They are all fakes that are massed produced in china. The original R4 group was shut down after about a year :P There are hundreds of versions of R4's available, so take note of your version (R4DS, R4III, R4SDHC, R4i etc etc) and look for the appropriate website to download the firmware, as each "model" uses their own specific version of the software. (Trust the Chinese to overcomplicate everything! There's almost a different website for each model!)

Also take not wheter or not your specific version supports Micro SDHC (4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB) or just the normal Micro SD. I use a 2GB card which is enough (Holds around 15 games) and ensures that I never have trouble with a non-SDHC device.

I have owned 3 myself (Sold each one to a friend and bought myself a new one!) and I bought all 3 from bidorbuy for approx R150 - R200 each.

The R4's can play almost all games. There are a few exceptions though with newer games where better measures of copyright protection has been put in place. However, an ARM7 patch usually fixes the problem but removes multiplayer capabilities in some cases. Google for more detail if you need it!

R4's are on the cheaper spectrum of flashcarts and I'm more than happy with the capabilities it offers :)

Has anyone come across any new news about Zelda: Spirit Tracks? They said it should be released by the years end at the beginning of this year, I'm hoping they're still on schedule.

For All People in the Greater Cape Town Region. . .

For all guys looking for a R4DS/HC/i Flashcart in the Cape Town area, there's a guy selling them. Visit consoledoctor.co.za or pm me for his address. He also deals with a wide range of consoles. Excellent service.

Thanks.

Anyone know of good DS homebrew apps worth getting? I currently have DSorganiser, A SNES and Genesis emulator on my R4DSHC 8gb card.

Strange thing happened last night.

Yesterday when I left work, I just shut my DS like I always do. When I opened it a few hours later to resume playing some chinatown wars, I noticed a green stuck pixel on the touch screen. First I thought it would disappear after a while of gaming, but it didn't.

So I googled for a solution, and found the "pressure while switching on" and "tapping with the stylus" remedies. Neither worked, even after multiple attempts, so out of frustration I pushed the spot with my thumb, and hey, it's gone. How about that.

I think the touchscreen covering is just too hard for the stylus to put pressure on the lcd below without denting it. I'm guessing my thumb deflected enough of the covering to squeeze the pixels. I wasn't pushing hard or anything, maybe a bit harder than I normally do with my DS or phone.
