The Official Nintendo DS Thread

:/

I bought the latest Castlevania legally for R84 (take2). Few others for R177. Yeah yeah, you use the R4 to trial then buy, but speaking from experience (on PC) that never happens unless some online component is missing in the pirated game. Rather just support the developers, and at ~R150 per game that's not too hard to do.

Yes that is a fair price to pay I agree. When we imported a batch of DS lites and R4 cards, the supplier threw in a couple of DVDs full of ROMS without it even being mentioned. I was surprised but can't say I am complaining.

Currently I have my DSlite for only two years and the D-pad has gotten unresponsive. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hey guys new here:

Im looking at getting the new ds XL and a flash card tho im not sure as to how this works so i have a few questions, apologies if you have covered this in the 57 pages before this post

1) does the actual console have to be flashed and then you load roms onto the card?
2) how do you get the roms onto the card, does your pc need a special slot?
3) do you need to run special software on your DS to get the roms to work or to access a menu from which you can then play the games?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Answers:
1) No, the actual console does not need to be flashed as the flashcart is the actual mod that allows you to play the games.
2) The flashcart has a slot where you fit either a microSD/microSDHC memory card (depending on flashcart specs) into it. Your flashcart should come packaged with a microSD card reader (i.e A usb flash drive where you fit the SD card in, and plug this device into a usb port on your pc.
3) Yes, you need to copy the latest firmware of your flashcart manufacturer (obtained from the internetz) onto your SD card in order for it to boot up. This firmware should be in your root directory and make a games folder to put your roms in.

That is all.
Happy Gaming.

It depends on the DS and the particular flash card. Some of them need the console to be flashed, others just work.

Remember, what you actually buy is a DS cartridge which can either accept an SD card, or a USB connection. If its an SD card, obviously you need an SD card reader. So yes in a manner of speaking your PC does need a special slot, if it is an SD card. Find out before you buy.

The particular card you buy will come with the software you need, which will allow you to run DS Roms. You can even get emulators for older systems, to run other kinds of ROMs.

I used to be big into Pokemon. That game could inspire addiction in me like nothing before or since. I've got over it though, dont think I could play through any of those games again. Just too similar, once you have finished a few. I used to have both a DS Lite and a DSi, and Diamond and Platinum. Finished both, bred new Pokes in Diamond to use in Platinum. Had finished the Elite 4 in platinum when I left my bag on a train (while still living in the UK). I lost my DSi and about 6-7 games, including Platinum. Still have Diamond and a lot of older GBA Pokemon games around here somewhere. Heck, I finished FireRed and beat the 8th gym in Emerald (not the Elite 4 though).

Its scary to think how much time I lost to those games.

Ok so what would u guys recommened then, I'm not keen on the idea of flashing the console and would like to just use the usb device where I can just throw roms on from my pc and plug it in and then it works??? I want the new ds xl

Haha I also wasted to much time on those Pokemon games, finished leaf green, played a bit Platinum but did not like it much. Then I found Soul Silver and that was the best one yet, still not finished with it.

Did you guys see the new Tetris Party Deluxe? Can't get it working, freezing white screen.

Has anyone tried to play certain games like pokemon and mario kart online using a wireless router? If so, please help me connect it. no int cap :/ Is my DSlite even compatible with my mega105wr router?

Finished DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans recently... <--Awesome game
Started Trauma Center: Under The Knife.... OMG that game is awesome...
Also wanna try Ace Attorney.

Also Release Date of the 3DS will be March 2011, maybe sooner... my poor DSlite might be null and void for new content.

The only problems I had, was security. The DS uses WEP (unsecure), which meant I had to take WAP security off.

So I took the plunge and forked out some bucks for the dsi XL yesterday. Grew up with the game & watch series, so the choice was kinda obvious. What games do you guys recommend? I'm 30 ... but feeling like a kid with this toy.

Get yourself one of the cheat card. These allow you to download any game (rom) off the net and "test" it before you buy. My fav is New Super Mario Bros.
