The Official NVidia Shield Thread

I recently moved all my AV equipment around a bit and realized that I had my Shield plugged into a non-4K port on my amp. I moved it into one of the 4K ports however Plex now refuses to play any content. I have audio pass through set to HDMI, though disabling that has made zero difference. Any idea what could be causing it to not work?

Is it both audio and video that doesn't play? Any errors?

Ahhh.... back to this retarded problem. Trying to add the Shield to Google Home.
It adds it but when I try to change the time format of it on the phone, it says that it cannot communicate with the device.
When I ask my Google via my phone or via my Home mini to play some music on the Shield, it says that something went wrong and it can therefore not play or stream anything to the Shield.

Does anyone have detailed steps, or can tell me what I am missing in this process?

So... I need a new download server.
It will maybe be a RPi3 to download all the crap I need, but which devices does the transcoding on the fly? The Shield or the Pi?

The Shield will direct play pretty much anything you can think of.

^^, shouldn't be any need for transcoding - the Shield has plenty horsepower (can play 4k 10bit HEVC).

edit: what Soul said.

So I can be 100% sure that Kodi on the Shield will transcode x265 and whatever from the Shield and that the actual processing only happens on the Shield?

I don't really understand what you're trying to do, you want a Raspberry Pi running stuff like Sonarr and Radarr to download to an external hard drive and then add that drive as a network source on the Shield?

Yes. Exactly.
I am just a bit concerned about which device does all the grunt work.

Only time transcoding happens is if you are running a Plex Server on the Shield AFAIK

I use my shield as a plex server with data stored on a nas. Old laptop manages downloads.

Have yet to find a file the shield can't handle even over the network

Me too.
If anything, if would be network throughput that is more likely a culprit if there are issues. If you have a 5Ghz with strong signal, you should be all good

Playstation remote has so much lag. Really don't want to buy a shield controller. Anyone using an xbox controller?
XBox control is perfect but I use my LG remote most of the time.
