"Update: Nvidia responded to my request for comment via email saying the following.
A “sponsored” row that can’t be disabled has shown up on some Android TV devices. This row is not on SHIELD TV devices.
SHIELD does have a new Google Play channel (Apps Spotlight) at the bottom of the screen, but this can disabled by scrolling to “Customize channels” and selecting “Promotional channels.”
So if the sponsored row appears on an Nvidia device you can remove it, and if you cannot that’s due to a bug that Nvidia tells Gizmodo is being looked into.
However this suggests that the sponsored row is potentially optional, which leaves questions as to why Sony devices cannot remove it easily. Sony and Google have both told me they are looking into it."

So after dropping the stock remote about 50 times in a year, it is now toast. I have a new Rii I8 but it doesn't pick up on the shield. It uses a dongle and struggles to pair. I have managed to use cec to work with my Samsung remote but there are caveats. Don't want to buy a replacement shield one, it's too expensive. What other alternates are available that I can buy locally?

Managed to get this to work. USB mode needed to be set to compatibility.
Looks like a new version in on the horizon.
Going to have to be really interesting for me to upgrade, very happy with my current one.

Doesn't look like there is any reason to upgrade though. I just wish that there was a decent emulator.

Netflix 5.1 and improved HDR will be a big deal to some, decent update.
I noticed there are a few movies that don't support the 5.1. So had to physically change it within the movie.
I am getting 30hz at 4k, would that be because of the cable perhaps?
