My first case from modmypi. I have another 10 cases arriving from different vendors, but this one is my first one :D
 
i also had an issue with raspbmc.

i started with openelec. and it worked nicely except full HD.
so i tried raspbmc rc4 and it worked very nicely. scraped everything and worked great, till all of a sudden after boot up into xbmc the screen just went blank. and the same happened every time after that.

so i just put the openelec SD back and all is good again.
i think next i am gonna try xbian.

will see how that goes.
 
Is somebody using a R-PI for a NAS? I am looking for something cheap and reliable to connect USB drives to and do backups from my PC. Won't use Wifi - have a LAN cable.

We got in early and took delivery on 6/6/6.

Four months, give or take - wow, that is a wait. I think it may be because they have lifted restrictions on quantities. Average wait back in the day was 7 weeks from order BUT (and this is a but) we had to register as a buyer and wait for our invites, which also took several weeks. So in essence, we all waited 4 months from registration to delivery.

Firefox OS coming to Raspberry Pi

Oleg Romashin has got a long way already with a port of the open-platform OS to the Raspberry Pi. Firefox OS is scheduled to release some time in 2013; we’re excited to see it’ll be an option for the Raspberry Pi, and it’s fascinating watching work like this progress. In the video below you’ll see Gecko runtime doing its thing, along with some WebGL animations at 60fps.

Oleg’s a Principal Engineer at Nokia. He’s made a download of the work-in-progress port to Raspberry Pi available (this is a direct download link to the tarball; there isn’t currently any other content on his site) if you want to join in the fun.

Ok I've readh through about half this thread- but can one of you techies please explain to dimwits like me what exactly this is used for? Also is it easy to use for those of us who are not clued up on Linux or coding?

It is a small Linux based computer that sells for around R300. It is quite powerful - people use them for full HD media players, low power, versatile and VERY customizable as it runs Linux.
 
Ok so can I plug it into my TV and email,surf the internet if I don't have a clue about Linux (sorry if the question sounds stupid)
 
OK, I've finally got some time to mess around with mine, it's been gathering dust since I received it.

Anybody have a guide to loading OpenElec onto the thing? I want to try my best not to fry it, so I'd rather ask. Last time I tried the only thing which came on was a red light. I later found out it won't do anything without an SD card...

I'm using the this dongle and it works.

My problem was dropped connections. With the help of this thread on the Raspberry Pi forum I got sorted.

It seems the USB devices either fail or reset in X when connected to the hub. So I eliminated the hub and connected the dongle and the wireless keyboard receiver straight to the Pi and everything works.

I just want to find out quick, how does the wifi dongle work? will it act as an access point where i will be able to remote desktop the raspberry pi?

Don't install openelec on it, rather do Raspbmc. You download the installer, run setup (windows machine with SD card reader), have it write the installer image to the card, then boot up your PI with the card in it and make yourself a coffee while it downloads XBMC and installs.
 
I have the transcend (from Sybaritic) 16GB Class 10

The class indicates the write speed - higher class = better speed (I am sure you know that though). I have found that a lot of Sandisk's promo BS includes statements about real, guaranteed write speeds but the pricing of San compared to others has always moved me away from them. That said, these things are the same price so why not one of each and then share your findings?

You will find that only 1 SD OS card will eventually frustrate you because it means reinstalling each time you want to try something different.

I already made my order excluding the Sandisk, which if i order now will charge shipping haha maybe next time i order from takealot ill throw one in :)
