The Official Xiaomi Thread

Sounds similar to the issue with the buttons that stopped working on the Redmi 2, its a known issue.

The least they could do is offer a recall or repair but I suppose it's easier to ignore the issue and ask users to try factory resets, updated ROM's and the like instead of taking the blame. I do probably sound like I am badmouthing the company but I am pretty upset right now as the phone was working 100% (besides the crappy battery life) up until I went on my trip to the Northern Cape. At the time I thought it may have been a network issue but the issue has remained even after I returned to PE.

I also read some reviews on the Note series (not only Note 2) and a couple of people have complained about the sound issue. Hope the one I ordered from GearBest is fine. It does seem like they have a good refund policy. Interesting that Xiaomi doesn't want to admit it. My moms note 2 had an issue where it just randomly restarted (after it updated to the latest MIUI available for Note 2), I just did a reset and since then everything was fine. Wonder if it is maybe not related to MIUI.

I avoided Geekbuying as they only gave me two options for shipping, both looked like they were SAPO related which means customs will be an issue.

I feel like MIUI, despite being a nice easy GUI to use, has its flaws. I cannot solely blame Geekbuying for my troubles as I have been relatively chilled up to today. It's just the pressure of me now needing a working phone urgently that is egging me on quite a bit. Talking dirty to the girlfriend over the loudspeaker isn't going to cut it when out in public, I'm afraid :crylaugh:

I highly doubt they will do an official recall, esp seeing that the co is selling the phones at close to no profit, Unlike Samsung or worse Apple. So in short you do get what you pay for. At least it does look like they are getting better with designs, guess us early adopters are field testing their phones so to speak.

That said I really really love my Redmi Note 4X, Still have a Mi 5 in the box as a back-up but so far its looking good. (Bought both phones together for R5000 so that has to account for something)

Sidenote: Found out a month back, one of my American friends that worked for the same company as me in China, is working in the Xiaomi factory in India, where they make the Mi Max & Note 4X's. I will drop him a PM and find see if he knows anything. He is in IT so don't really expect anything to come of it.

Sadly thanx to SA Postal service I guess our international buying days are over, unless you feel like gambling I guess.

Flip, that is annoying. I just keep mine on 50% to 60%. Anyways, enough of our 'depressing' phones.

I bit the bullet and bought the Note 3 32 gig from Takealot, my LG is toast and I can't even get it to access the last month of photos that for some reason didn't go to the cloud :-(

Oh that is crap, is this also for phones? Got an email today that my phone is on its way.

Still trying to solve the problem, as I know Lithium products is not allowed on passenger planes DHL(EXT) but was allowed on cargo planes re: strait DHL. I did my order as such (Ship via Cargo DHL) as the headphones contained batteries but got the message above.

I don't know if the Gearbest agent is asleep or if normal DHL is now also blocking items containing batteries. Will keep you up to date.

I only got the option to ship DHL (Europe) or ship DHL (Global), no cargo option. Anyways keep us updated. If my phone gets here before end of next week I will definitely like to buy from Gearbest again.

Are those via cargo not via passenger? Cause the regulation seems aimed more at passenger planes.

It's such a contradiction though given flights to the US from certain countries demand devices excluding cells with lithium batteries go into the hold of passenger planes

Yeah I know,
Passanger:
"Laptop, no sorry you have to place it into cargo hold"

DHL:
"Laptop, no sorry you have to ship this via the water"

Shipping:
"Oooh sorry sir we don't have the right fire suppression for that kind of goods you need to send it via Air"

.... go figure.

Some movement, at last!

How does that process work exactly

They changed my shipping to Aramex to ship instead of DHL... After I raised a ticket saying I can not get regular or registered mail so they either ship via another courier or cancel. I am sure that is the other option other than DHL on their order page.

If you going to buy a phone from them I would recommend waiting before you order to see if it actually works.

Eish... Just that after I published to everyone how awesome this is. Phone under 3k deliver to your door with DHL. And now it's already dead.

Then what is going on with Gearbest...

Well DHL just phoned and said there is a small customs fee that needs to be paid, I must wait 20minutes for the email, then the package is on its way. I'll be very impressed if the package gets delivered without issues.

Maybe it has to do with who ever is on duty for the day? But I also heard that Aramex is not too bad just that the customs can sometimes be high. I think there is a Thread for Aramex somewhere.

I also took insurance with the DHL package, can this maybe be part of it? AlphaJohn did you take insurance with your package?
