The Official Xiaomi Thread

JIMC must have a massive backlog as my Redmi Note 4 has been there since the 22nd without any movement.

That said, it took twenty days from when it arrived before it even got sent to customs. At least I got my two cases and the tempered glass screen protector :)

I've asked this on the other thread too, but maybe someone here can help.

I have an Nitrogen OS on, and every time I reboot the device, the default apps settings gets reset. For instance, I have to enable Swiftkey Keyboard each time, and set Nova as the launcher, after every boot. Any ideas?

Pakka I can't say I have heard of that issue before. Do you have a Redmi Note 3?

Does it start up with 'optimizing apps' on every boot up? My thinking would be that there is a partition that is read-only that needs write access to allow to save your changes held in RAM to the ROM on the phone.

Thanks, I just tried a few things and it seems to be resolved:
Remove App2SD app
Move Swiftkey Keyboard and Nova Launcer from SD card to internal storage
In android settings, battery optimizations -> set Swiftkey and Nova to not optimise.

Seems to be working now (i think it was due to the last point).

Blyme what could this be...

And, has your issue been sorted? Hoping it has resolved itself...

Congrats shiverz, let us know how you enjoy it.

Mine is still at customs and will probably be for the remainder of the year. I wouldn't mind if my current Redmi Note 2 didn't have a buggy speaker, so I am a bit anxious to get my paws on it right now

Wish it was mine. Hooked a mate of mine up. Was setting it up for him.

I've tried the snail mail method and now the DHL way. DHL all the way. Ordered this Thursday.... Its here Monday. It's insane. Worth the R600.

Congrats to your friend in that case! I have a few cases and a tempered glass screen protector lying here on my desk with nothing to use it on :crylaugh:

I think I may go DHL with my next one too. Also, Geekbuying sent me an email today proclaiming up to 90% off for their five year sale starting today up until the 4th of June. I also received a promo code for $10 off orders above $200 which I will stick in the original post of this thread

My wife's birthday is in middle June and I'm thinking of getting her a Xiaomi (got my mom the Note 2 a while ago and I'm very impressed with it). My budget is around 3K, preferably less. Currently I'm looking at the following options:

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 16GB (2GB Ram?):
Takealot R 2,959

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 32GB (3GB Ram?): I prefer the 3GB ram option.
Takealot R 3,299

Any advice, deals or suggestions? I guess importing it will take a bit long.

Thanks

The Note 3 has a very big following over here and is well supported by the community.

Some of the Note 3 guys should chime in here soon, but rather push for the 32GB/3GB model as it has more headroom.

Thanks for your response.

I also see this (Xiaomi Redmi Note 4):
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Glob...-4-3G-3GB-32GB-Smartphone---Black-377527.html

for 150 USD, but have NO idea what it will cost by the time it reach SA, maybe someone has some experience buying from them and actual delivery time etc.

I am hoping AlphaJohn replies as he has imported one successfully. I have one waiting for me in customs, however I chose regular shipping which takes ages.

Bradley82 has a Redmi Note 4 for sale in the classified section, for what it's worth. I am speaking under correction but I think it is less than a week old. You seem to be a bit pressed for time as your wife's birthday is next month so perhaps it would be better to find a local device if you decide on the phone

Thanks, I got his PM. Would also be interested to hear what AlphaJohn says. According to geekbuying it is 7-15 business days and the Note 4 will cost about ZAR 1906.89 + ZAR 647.09 shipping, which depending on other factors is not a bad price.

Importing from Gearbest via DHL (Note strait DHL not any other option) normally takes about 5 days, so add $40 for shipping. They have a black Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X for $163 (R2200 depending on exchange rate) that is not a bad deal at all. Only use paypal to buy from them and remember to use your bank's conversion not paypal as they charge a tad more than our banks.

(Check out the Note 4 thread here to see review)

Expect to pay an extra +- R350 for customs

Redmi Note 3's have better CPU performance than Note 4X but battery use can't touch it. Note 4 is not slow at all and can handle latest games easy.

Never bought via Geekbuying so do not know what shipping method they use or custom fees. But that is a Good price. Refer to the Note 4 thread link above to see the difference between Note 4 and 4X. if you don't mind Note 4's LTE/Bluetooth then Greabest also have a Black Note 4 for $156.

Personally I am on Cell C so went 4X to get LTE.

Ah, excellent. Thanks for your reply. For the customs fee, does this include the 14% vat etc. Am I right to say DHL will handle all of this?

Check PM

DHL will contact you once it hits customs to pay the Import and handling. So yes they handle/push it for you.
