The Official Xiaomi Thread

Definitely won't throw in free postnet :) Anyone who wants to buy a phone remotely does so at own risk.
I've sold my Note 3, an S6 Edge and a Poynting Antenna to people across the country using Postnet. Granted, mybroadband post counts and Carb Reps help to assure buyers they are not going to get smoked

Sheesh, the amount of Xiaomi phones is a bit overwhelming. I'm looking for an upgrade under R4500 (landed).

Don't really have any specific requirements but ideally: around 5.8 - 6", decent camera, aux port would be a plus, a regular ratio (9:16 I believe) would be great as well, as I am a social media manager (and I find sometimes weird ratios will make Instagram Story posts weird)

Poco F1. The end.

Poco F1. The end.

To be honest I am starting to think I should have gone for a Note 7 Pro or such instead of the Poco. Sure my phone is Super powerfull but for someone that don't even touch games I think I could have gone cheaper and still get the same usage, maybe even with better photo's.

"The Redmi Note 7 was a hit in China due to its low price tag, and Xiaomi wants to replicate the success in Europe as well. The device with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage is listed by the Spanish division of the company for only €149.
Luckily, European fans of the phone will get the variant with 48 MP main camera and not the Indian version with a simple 12 MP snapper."

Went to Dubai for work. Decided that maybe the broken screen on my Mi5 needed repairing after more than 18 months on the bench.

Cost was AED 120 for the repair in the Deira Souq area. Took about 3 hours in total because the guy had to go to the market to look for parts.

That's slightly less than R480

this for me is xiaomis biggest problem - the confusion with all the different models and naming conventions
they should just keep it simple

I think thats fair, if you are an "average" user then the Note 7 pro should do just fine plus you'll get a great camera

for a "power user" the poco packs better performance and would possibly be more future proof and have more development in terms of custom roms/kernels/mods/etc

That said, with the price difference so close (N7Pro +/- $250 VS POCO +/-$300).

If the poco were to drop to $250 then the decision becomes a toughy.

Personally i would still go poco

but then again there is no best. Only what is best for your individual use case.

Does anyone know of any Xiaomi repair centres? My dad has a redmi note 4, but the battery has swollen up and needs to be replaced.

Anyone here get some covers and screen protectors for the Mi 8 on Gearbest or anywhere else that you can recommend?

Need some Tech Gurus help please

I have an old Xiaomi Redmi 2 Model number Hongmi 2014817 Also referred referred to as wt88047
It is a Dual Sim phone with separate SD card slot
Old model but worked great for my purposes

Phone was working 100% both SIM slots with SIMS installed and BOTH working on LTE
Then I decided to try a different ROM -- curiosity got the better of me
I successfully rooted the phone and installed the Lineage ROM ( correct for the model )
After a short test I decided I did not much like it -- seemed very unpolished and rough
Flashed back the ROM it previously had -- all good and well
ALL other functions of phone working OK

HOWEVER ....
The phone originally provided LTE on BOTH SIM slots / cards ( this is VERY important )
After this little exercise in curiosity it now provided LTE on ONLY ONE SIM SLOT
Both SIMs are definitely 100% 4G / LTE as when run singly they both come up as LTE

I have gone backwards and forwards with multiple different ROMS
Installed via TWRP --
Flashed via recover method as well as fastboot ( using MI flash )
Tried all sorts of "secret" screen presses to bring up developer options ( bootloader unlocked )
With everything I have tried still just stuck on ONE slot providing LTE / 4G

Xiaomi is very popular in India and that is where most of the trouble-shooting posts come from
NO offence to anyone but I cannot make out head or tail of what these guys are saying ? ( never mind Hindi / Tamil / Gururati )
Unfortunately I just cannot discover how one gets this functionality back ?
It is giving me sleepless nights -- I HATE failure

Anyone got any ideas ?
Happy to try anything .... ( cannot currently afford a new phone )

OK
It appears ALL the tech gurus have emigrated
SO
I looked up -- "Dual Sim"
Seems there are a couple of variants of how this works

This explains

Dual Sim Explained

( Scroll down )

Dual Sim standby and Dual Sim active

Therefore, chip makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek demoed dual 4G LTE last year, and the feature is now a mainstay on phones sold in 2018. As the name suggests, dual 4G LTE enables 4G connectivity on both SIM cards, allowing you to switch between two 4G networks seamlessly.

Dual 4G VoLTE is a subset of the feature, and it allows you to make HD calls from either SIM. So if you have two SIM cards and both facilitate VoLTE, you can choose from either carrier before making a call. Dual 4G LTE relies on Dual SIM Dual Standby, which uses a single transceiver but lets both SIMs be active, facilitating better battery life.

Dual Sim 4G LTE

OK
So this feature IS available ..........
Now
I know I definitely had Dual Sim 4G LTE on my phone as the on screen display showed both Sim cards as having 4G
Which it does not show now -- currently battery life is also a lot better ( longer ) a clear indication of single 4G usage

I have NO idea how it came about that this feature was enabled on my phone ?
As a newcomer to smartphones it was something I never really paid attention to.

I can only thing that out of the various Beta ROMS ( Chinese as well ) I installed there was something that "switched" this feature on

I want it back -- PLEASE ...
:)
