The Official Xiaomi Thread

Sorry if I'm not going to read through all the posts and ask something that has been asnwered before.

Time to upgrade on my contract and I see absolutely nothing I am interested in. So thinking of buying a Xiaomi cash and just continuing with a SIM only contract.

Mi9T Pro has caught my eye because of the decent camera and other good specs are a bonus.

Something else I should consider looking at? Camera is important to me. As well as decent battery life and smooth fast UI.

Saw decently priced ones on Amazon but I see most people use/recommend Gearbest.

Thanks for the advice guys and I will obviuously be having a closer look at this thread from now on.
My wife moved from a Samsung Note 4 to a redmi Note 7 some months back. In my opinion, the new phone is better in every respect than the old Samsung, even though it is only a mid-range device (I know, the Samsung is 4 years old already...). Battery life is also great on the redmi. The redmi Note 8 has just been released. It is l roughly the same price as the Note 7, but has marginally better specs.

The new model top of the range phones seem to have more power than what the average user requires from a phone. People seem to buy them more for bragging rights...

I still haven't found enough reason to splash out on a new phone, also on the Samsung Note 4 since week 2, so the device is over 5 years going strong. Did buy a XRN8Pro for my sister, there is some gadget excitement as I await delivery.

I'm due for a new one. S8 has taken a beating over the past year with the clumsy kids and myself taking a tumble while out for a run.

Back glass is shattered and cover is pretty much keeping it from losing little pieces.

Front top right corner at the selfie camera also has a hairline crack through it.
For some reason fingerprint reader also started struggling after the back glass shattered. And using PIN again.

But I can't see myself paying the premiums asked on contracts for a decent spec phone.

So would rather buy a Xiaomi cash and downgrade to a SIM only contract for voice and or data. Dual SIM means I can look at various options for Data/Voice.

Which Xiaomi phone do you guys recommend as a budget phone? Perhaps something like a Redmi 8A and around that price range.

Also keen to find out the above. The 5000mAh battery on the '8' and '8A' seem quite attractive.

I ended up adding the extra cash and going with the redmi 8. The person who'll be using the phone is coming from a mobicel so it will be a quantum leap for them for sure. The redmi 8 is just the same redmi 8A with twice the ram, twice the storage, extra depth sensor camera and a fingerprint reader. It retains all the good stuff such as a big battery and fast charging etc.

Appreciate the feedback. Very tempted. Where'd you get yours from?

Takealot - they discounted it by R100 - so it's currently going for R2499 which sounds much cheaper than R2599 :D -And this is for the 4GB/64GB variant

I recently bought Redmi note 8 pro 6gb/ 128gb for R3500 also Pocophone F1 at 3800. Both dual sim models are heavily discounted in India. Note 8 pro is actually a beautiful device and very responsive. I can try to get more if anyone is interested.

Definitely can't pass up such an amazing discount.

Do you know if there is a screen protector included by chance?

Wife's RedMi Note 3 got expropriated at our local mall today.

Is this a good buy and is this shop reputable? https://miphones.co.za/products/redmi-note-8

Mind trying to get me a Note 8 6GB/64GB, but the Note 8 Pro 6gb/ 128gb for R3500 sounds like a very good deal!

will find out when it gets delivered later today and give an update.

Are updates pushed from xiaomi themselves? Does the region you choose make a difference?

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Mi9 yesterday morning.

Also went to Telkom and moved over to SIM only contract.

Got my Note 8 Pro over the weekend and I have to say, it's fan-****ing-tastic. There's really very little I can say bad about it. The only thing that bothers me is the notch, but I can learn to live with it. Otherwise I'm absolutely in love with it. Performance is great. I got it in green. I was originally skeptical that it would look nice, but I'm glad I did. The glassy finish looks really nice with the green. At the very least it stands out from everyone else's phones.

I'm also super glad that the fingerprint sensor is still on the back. I do hope Xiaomi will reconsider the in-screen fingerprint sensor in their newer models because it doesn't appeal to me at all (and might be a deal-breaker in future. We'll see.)

Someone in the office told me it's on par with the Samsung S9. I'm not sure how true it is, but I will say that I see no reason to spend $600 on a Samsung flagship phone (or any other brand, really) when Xiaomi is putting out such fantastic phones at a fraction of the price.

I look forward to getting the Note 10 Pro in a year or two when the price has dropped a bit. :)

I'm getting my Note 8 Pro tomorrow. I've loved my Nokia 5 but it's really showing its age now.

I Second that. Got Mine Friday even though it was originally scheduled for delivery today.
I had a Xperia Z5 previously and will miss the IP68 but other than that this is kicking the pants of of the Z5.
Flagship performance for half the price is a no-brainer.
Also my first time buying from Gearbest and have to say im impressed.
Got the Blue (wanted the Green but missed the last one) and it really does look amazing.
The responsiveness on the phone, even when multiple apps are open is fantastic.
