The Official Xiaomi Thread

I need some basic flashing assistance with Android, please. My Redmi 9 (bootloader unlocked, not rooted) is currently on Pixel Experience 12 Plus, viaPixel Experience Recovery. I tried to escape the abysmal notifications of MIUI - Pixel Experience is great but I'm experiencing bad battery drain on idle (apparently an issue with Google Play Services) that will have to wait for an update to be adressed, so I'm looking at other custom roms in the interim.

Seems that this entails installing a different recovery, eg TWRP, then flashing whichever rom I fancy. I can't figure out a couple of things, though:

1. Do I need to do the fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img command, since I am already on a custom rom?

2. Any gotchas that I need to be aware of?

In my experience its as simple as opening up cmd in the location of where your fastboot files are located, then typing:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (twrp.img should be in the same folder or you cant just put the full path in.)

Thats it, a couple seconds later its done. you can do:
fastboot reboot recovery

or do the phones relevant volume + power button combo after shutting it down first.
The only Gotcha i can think of is that TWRP has no support for android 12 so i had 'issue' where the recovery would be overwritten.
Not at my machine right now so can't recall the finer details. but either way no risk.

Note 8 - when playing a whatsapp voice note, the screen blanks, but you can hear the person talking.

Using volume controls does not change the volume at all. You can lock the phone, but it will only unlock after the voice note stopped playing.

WTF.

Got myself a Xiaomi Pad 5 11" tablet. Very nice and perfect for load shedding evenings. Had it now for about 2 weeks, I think, and it's been great so far.

Been using my POCO M4 Pro now for a week and so far so good. It really has an impressive screen and battery life.

Just a few comments:

  • The screen is a bit reflective, sometimes it feels if I'm looking into a mirror. Maybe I should get a ant-glare screen cover.
  • The screen is not bright enough in the dark which makes it difficult to read. So now I have to disable auto brightness in the evenings.
  • FNB tab to pay actually works at Pick and Pay (didn't work on my Mi 9). Unfortunately it didn't work at Doppio Zero.
  • On my Mi 9 when I connected Bluetooth to my car radio YouTube music automatically started to play. This doesn't happen on my M4, I must now start it manually.

Interesting, I have a Mi 9.
Tap to pay works at Shoprite/checkers, never tested at PnP, I've used the OEM tap to pay as well maybe test that ? instead of opening the FNB app.
My Mi 9 does not auto continue music from YT Music, I actually have tasker do that for me as its my primary music source in the car.

Thanks for the feedback, I will test OEM tap and pay at Doppio Zero.

I also use Tasker to auto pay music on my home soundbar, but I have not managed to add two Bluetooth devices to the Tasker project.

I have been using Darker Pro since the Samsung Note 2, to adjust night-time brightness. It works great. Some phones need it, others not.

3 second wait so phone is fully connected to car, I've had the phone speaker blast music a few times.
Set phone media volume to max.
Media control play on YT Music app
second play is the same just cause i've had it not react on the first one sometimes, 2nd one doesn't do anything if 1st one succeeds.
Can't have them in one task as it seems like it means that both BT devices would need to be connected at the same time instead of either 1 device. Haven't fiddled much with it, just did a basic task for my needs

Xiaomi will unveil the prototype of its first car in August

Sina Tech is reporting that the Xiaomi founder, Lei Jun will unveil the prototype of the first car from the phone giant at a public event this coming August. The company founder apparently spends two thirds of his time at the Xiaomi Auto headquarters to make sure the project is progressing as planned.

After the unveiling, the prototype will commence its road testing including its first winter tests. The team behind the upcoming car comes from HVST Automobile Design which is responsible for the Maven concept car from WM Motor.

Xiaomi is preparing to launch its automotive brand, it has already hired a PR director and its marketing campaign will commence after the prototype goes public.

The company officially joined the EV race at the start of last year and committed $10 billion over the next ten years to the development of its automotive division. The Xiaomi Auto manufacturing plant will be built in Yizhuang where the company will have an R&D center as well. The expected production capacity is 300,000 cars per year once the factory runs at its full speed.

Just switched to a Poco F3 after almost 3yrs driving my still loved Mi 9T.

Enjoying the speed of the thing a lot so feels like a big upgrade when navigating.

Anyone else on a F3?

Helped my dad back onto a Galaxy A32 today after he was on a Redmi 9A since January. I know you get what you pay for and the 9A is a cheap phone, but it is unusably slow at times. I have one as my secondary phone and - wow - you actually miss calls because the phone is so slow. Running it in performance mode does not help either. I do believe he would have been better off on a similarly priced Xiaomi, but he has had a few Samsung phones before and is in he's 70s so I am not going to argue with him.

We run the office Business WhatsApp off a 9C. Works well for all of us connected via WhatsApp Web, but when you actually have to drive the phone to enter a new contact it is definitely a bit painful. Has an extra 1GB of Ram over the 9A though.

Yep, I've got the 8/256 model.
Any issues with the auto brightness? Seeing some random deep dimming this side which I've had to fight back by manually sliding the brightness slider.

No, none at all (and I had awful auto brightness on my 1+ 7 Pro so would notice immediately).

Are you on 13.0.7?
