None of the Redmi's sold here have NFC anyway but yes banking apps and McDonalds etc. might stop working.
Banking apps work, just not Wallet. Not sure if banking tap to pay works, ABSA doesn't have it to test.
There are 4 Redmi 13 Pro 256 gig phones in our family. 2 bought from Takealot and 2 from Amazon USA. Google Wallet and NFC works on all 4...

I get the annoying app store from the Xiaomi popping up all the time wanting to update my apps. I usually use Google Play. How do i disable this?

but that xiaomi camera island is also a screen too as per the video you linked of the review, so are people just putting a photo of a camera lens on the screen so it looks like an iphone?

I wouldn't bother waiting to tell the truth, I don't think they've ever released their flagship line locally, we might occasionally get spinoffs of the flagships like the T series, but the top of the liine has never really been produced locally, your best bet is importing.
