The Official Xiaomi Thread

That's fantastic, RedViking. Hoping for good news.

I went to the local PO today but the lady said my package will only be there by Monday. Sigh

Maybe it has to do with who ever is on duty for the day? But I also heard that Aramex is not too bad just that the customs can sometimes be high. I think there is a Thread for Aramex somewhere.

I also took insurance with the DHL package, can this maybe be part of it? AlphaJohn did you take insurance with your package?

Yeah you pay online and they get it instantaneously. You looking at tomorrow for delivery, most likely.

Yeah just paid. Didn't know it is this easy. =) If I get it before Tuesday I'll be very happy. This means I will get the package faster than the item I ordered locally via Takealot a week ago, and also faster than the item I ordered via importitall 2 weeks ago.

I have nooooo bloody clue. To be honest.
Bought one phone via DHL(EXT) then
I had issues and someone called Yasmin changed shipment to DHL(SA) for 2 phones.
I bought 1 more on plain DHL.

Between all this I bought 3D printes, watches, covers and what not using DHL(EXT) with no problems or hichup's

Now I just bought 2 sets of Bluetooth headphones and they go sorry no go, plain DHL and DHL(SA) says nope so they can try and send via Aramex. Will have to see if I get the stuff. If I understand RedViking's link to DHL You can ship batteries but must register to do so & indicate on the parcels how and what it is.

I have a feeling they did not register and just chance it on every order.

If you paid it will be ready for delivery tomorrow. If you used your home address you might just get it (Depending on the area) else Monday it will be in your hands.
 
Looking for a guide to unlock bootloader, root and flash twrp on redmi 4x... Has anyone done it yet? Appears to be a shlep.
 
Okay these screens aren't very strong, either that or my wife is really bad with Xiaomi devices, her third bloody screen cracked this time on an RN3. She dropped it from the level of the pocket of your car door to the floor, which my LG G4 has had many times happened and nothing, this has now got a crack from the bottom and spreads, luckily it's not shattered like her RN2 one.
Also who do I email to unlock the boot loader so I can put a new OS on?

My LG G2 fell less than 40cm and landed just on the wrong spot on the tiles and shattered the whole screen into tiny pieces. Since then I have bought those R50 - R100 glass screen protectors (shattered about 2 or 3 of those on the G4) and a rubber case with edges that stands out a bit.

I don't have any screen protector on my G4 and it has been dropped a few times, but yeah I did get one for the Note 2 my wife had. Considering ordering some from Zastra, they did take about two months to arrive but they had the screen and the screen protectors for a good price.
 
We do need better support though, think there is only one service center in SA and you have to send your phone through the company you bought it from.
 
Agreed. I am hoping Xiaomi get a bigger foothold in SA as they make some nice products and it would be nice if they offered repairs on their other devices such as their smart vacuums and drones

They are planing to grow into SA and use us to spread into Africa but our BEE seems to be a hurdle from what I have heard. The Mexico and Brazil markets are also growing at a larger rate than SA so they focusing on those areas for now.

Employment restrictions would be a hurdle, but hey it's beneficial to some.
 
I really feel like I need to take a moment to mention the level of competency of the staff at the SAPO in Newton Park. Apparently when the online tracking says the following:

it actually means 'sorry, we do not have your package, please try again tomorrow'. Apparently the staff there know the system better than any online parcel tracker around!

That's SAPO in general. In the mean time the package is on whoever is busy taking 'lunch's desk.
 
They will be hearing from me again at 16:55 today...
