The Official Xiaomi Thread

Samsung create a lot of hype around their products...just look at how the world went mad when the S8 was announced.

That and they have so much overlap in their lineup with the S/A/J series, and that's just the popular ones. Other markets get far more spread and exposure than us, and the people are pretty much spoiled for choice

So a small issue that I have that I'd like to find out from others if they're also experiencing it.

If someone messages me on Whatsapp while my screen is off then the green notification LED will flash, as normal. However, occasionally I will receive a message but the LED won't fire off.

This appears to be happening around about the same time that a certain Whatsapp group (groan) has a message, although I have the group muted. I guess what I am getting at is that if the muted group receives a message, the flashing LED that was previously flashing goes away and doesn't return until another non-muted contact messages me. Silly gripe, but a valid one nonetheless.

Anyone else?

I've got this same issue on my RN3, running Lineage OS. Annoyed me quite a bit so disabled the notification light totally for now until I get a chance to reload the phone and hopefully resolve this problem.

Hey RedViking, what did your wife say about the Note 4? Is she enjoying it? Give us a review!

Posted review on other thread this morning, but here it is:

Sorry for the late review, have been very busy and typed a review a while ago then my LG G4 froze and that was the end of it.

Xiaomi Note 4X review by RV:

So my wife has been using the phone for about a week and I've played with it. She is not a heavy user, use it mostly for phoning clients, Amazon Kindle, YouTube videos and general communication.

Pros:
Since she's got it, it has probably only been charged 2 or 3 times, so basically 3 days of battery use. This is great.
Fingerprint reader works great, easy to unlock screen directly from sleep. So there is no need for finger swiping the screen etc. You can register more than one fingerprint. Display and brightens looks great. You can use double tap on the display to wake it up. The phone also responds well and no delay switching between applications etc. Lots of memory, even with all the crapware. I had to cut her SIM to fit the micro sim slot and there was no issues. For a 3K phone the camera works well, good quality when there is good lighting. Will still try an alternative camera application.
The stock MIUI looks nice and she likes it. I noticed though when using the Time Widget you can't center the widget properly or change it much, so personally I'll prefer Nova Launcher with finer grid settings and customization.

Cons:
You need to register the phone with an MI account otherwise it just doesn't work. I don't see the need to have a Google Account and an MI Account. After registering the MI Account I just disabled everything related to MI. So the account is just there to keep the phone and its creators happy. Lots of crapware on the phone, but this is to be expected.

Fingerprint reader and double tap: I hate buttons (thanks to the faulty buttons on my LG G4). As I said the finger print reader is great to unlock and the double tap is also handy. Would be nice if you can lock the phone with finger print or at least then lock the phone with double tap. This way there is no need to reach for that button to lock the phone or instantly turn of the display.

Camera lens is too close to fingerprint reader or there is no real division between them. A couple of times the fingerprint reader just doesn't respond because my finger is on the camera lens and not on the reader. Yes, maybe I am the only one and the problem might be the user here. I think this might get the camera lens scratched and a sort of division would be nice.

The charger doesn't connect easily to the phone, you have to force it a little bit until it makes a click sound. Is this normal? I can foresee that I'll have to order a charging port replacement in the near future. A Type-C port would have been great.

Glass Screen protector I ordered with the phone is too small and doesn't stick to the round edges, this is a known issue. Not sure if there is a solution though.

Conclusion:
This is a great phone for its price with excellent battery life, but there is room for improvement that won't affect the price of the phone.

Hmmm Do you have a Stock Global ROM on that phone as I use mine just fine with no Mi Account.

Yes, use everything as it came with the phone. If you don't register it, it doesn't want to except the sim and you get an annoying warning. The same happened to my moms Note 2. Once registered everything works fine.

Okay so looks like the numpity my mother in law took the RN2 to get the screen replaced broke the phone. He's now claiming he didn't do it, it won't switch on at all, whereas before it would switch on perfectly fine just the cracked screen. So now I don't know if I should cannibalise parts of her phone to fix the spare RN2 we've got lying around.

Nova Launcher

I agree. Nova Launcher is the answer. But wife is fine with Stock.
That's why soon as the wife gets a new phone I install Nova before she uses it. No android she's ever had has she ever seen the stock launcher And she doesn't even know

A colleague told me that his dad is experiencing the same prob with his RN3 a few hours ago.
Said he received a missed call on WhatsApp and now the notification (led) does not stop blinking.

Lol. I should have done the same. Oh well. She's got no complaints. If I had to do the review through her eyes everything is absolutely perfect.

Install a little widget called screen-off and place it in the bottom row next to the dialer icon so it's just one tap to switch the screen off :)

This happened on my RN2 and my RN4. So it seems like a global issue. I don't know if it happened with my old Moto G as back then I didn't have any groups muted, but I am guessing it may just be specific to certain Xiaomi phones.

Has your colleague's dad tried rebooting or reinstalling the app?

Ok just discovered the MI5 takes dual nano sims :p Now the question is, is it worthwhile trying to DIY cutting it ? The last time MTN charged my over R130 for a new sim and swop to get a micro one.

I cut my Mini to a Micro without any hassles, but Micro to Nano might need more finesse

I've cut three of my sims to nano without any hassles. Just use a template and it should work no problem.
