The Official Xiaomi Thread

Mi6 will probably get here in 2/3 months time unless you do direct import yourself

With the phones you mention (Oneplus 5 and Samsung Note 3) I would say you looking more for a Redmi Note 4 re screen size.

If Camera is your main focus Oneplus wins hands down, if you want to see the difference between them, why not head over to GSM and check for yourself if you can live with it or if its a deal breaker: http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=8647&idPhone2=8531&idPhone3=8507

Edit: I have both Redmi Note 4X and Mi 5 and can say that with default OS the camera's suck for night/low light shooting. You can get better Camera apps and there is tweaks to make it better but out of the box its like they not even trying.

What is the best replacement for the stock Xiaomi camera app? The Play Store has plenty of options but if one were to search for a 'good' camera app with more options what would be your go-to app?

Funny thing happened this morning - my alarm went off like it always does, I snoozed it and waited ten or so minutes before I woke up. When I did, my phone was displaying the 'lock screen' but I could only see my wallpaper. No icons, no swipe screen, niks. I used my fingerprint to unlock it and it opened up normally like it should.

However, most of my settings in the quick access list were off - Bluetooth, Wifi, mobile data, GPS - all the toggles were off. I turned the ones I needed on again and I got a notification that the phone lost connection to my Mi Band 2. I opened up the Mi Fit app and everything then seemed to go as planned. Was very strange.

Open camera seems to be decent

I came from an LG G4 to a Redmi Note 3, the shock of having a battery that lasts is amazing. My only gripe is the screens are really fragile.
I hear ya. I bought a universal 5.5 glass protecter at a Pakistan cell repair shop for R90.Only 1mm to small on one side. Works good.

My redmi note 4 mtk has daily wakelocks, preventing the phone from sleeping. If I notice, I reset the phone and am good, if i dont notice, then the battery drops at an alarming rate. Latest wakelock is "icing" from google services.
PS
I rooted and installed an AOSP rom with greenify and amplify, to get away from the wakelocks caused by having a 3g sim on miui

Thanks, I will give it a try!

The only thing I cannot get it to do is save to SD card, other than that you can even record at 4k. Which essentially the camera can do, it's just limited via the MIUI camera.

Had the same issue with Mi5 and MIUI 8.1 Gone away since it updated to 8.2

any ideas if the redmi note 3 will be getting an official update to MiUI 8 with marshmallow or is that MiUI 8 with nougat, I'm unsure.
I'm not brave enough to flash and add custom roms...fear of bricking

Marshmallow, MIUI 9 (currently in beta on some devices) is based on Nougat.

Thanks, got my RMN 3 yesterday and it had the update waiting to download to MIUI 8. now to source covers other than the ones on mia store

I was reading the review of the Redmi 4 over on GSMArena and noticed that despite it having the same size battery as the Redmi Note 4 [4100mAh], a smaller, less dense display [294ppi vs 401ppi] and a weaker CPU [SD430 vs SD625 in the Note 4 Global] it has a much worse battery rating than the aforementioned Note variant.

I wonder if this would come down to the 430 still using a 28nm process as opposed to the 14nm process of the SD625?

I also hope the rumours that the Note 5 will have a smaller battery than the Note 4 is false. The 4100mAh is a beast of a unit despite not having Quick Charge tech
