I had to finally reboot my phone today as the GPS refused to lock on to any satellites.
Post-reboot it still isn't locking on! Maybe it's just here in EL that it's sukkeling so. I'll check when I get back to PE if it works better there

Took 15 seconds here at the first stop-go en route to Port Alfred. The fastest lock in EL was around three minutes.Instant location lock on my Redmi Note 3 when I opened Google Maps 60sec ago....

Screenshot of recent menu? I think I'm doing it right but don't see a lock icon...Mine does that on occasion.
What I've found helps is to open gmail, then go back to your home screen by pressing the middle capacitive button.
Then open your Recents menu, find Gmail and swipe down. You'll see a Lock button. When it's locked then MIUI won't clear it from memory after a while. This worked for me, hopefully it does for you too
Turn off MIUI optimisations in the battery power saving menu and set the app to auto start.OK will try that. It's locked on mine currently. So is everything else
