The Official Xiaomi Thread

Thanks but are you using the same phone as me? The PC makes the appropriate noise when plugged in but nothing further.

All Mi phones works the same. After the noise, swipe down on the phone screen and tap on the USB option there and choose mass storage. By default it's only set to charge.

I have the Mi Max 2 and previously the Redmi Note 3.

I have the same issue when plugging my MI6 into my CentOS 7 computer, but it works perfectly on my Windows and Elementary computers.

Yeah I think people are used to Samsung phones, they go to mass storage or media sharing by default.

Thanks, however, I cant see contents of my SD Card. I set it to save images on my SD card but cannot download them as I cannot find the card. BTW i'm using Win 10.

I can maybe swing by sometime this week to see if I can assist as I'm also based in PE. Sounds like a strange issue though, are all the device drivers installed properly when you look in Device Manager?

I personally use AirDroid as I find it quite convenient and easy to use. The Xiaomi file explorer App also has an FTP mode whereby you can browse to and download files from your phone via the WiFi if your phone and your PC is on the same network

The Mi A1 is the closest thing we are getting to the Pixel. Now it's a tough decision to go for the A1 or wait it out for the Note 5.

Ok, two more things you can try. 1. Sometimes, on some Mi phones, when switching from Charge to MTP and the SD card isn't showing, you'll have to switch back to charge and then to mtp again, before it picks up.

or

2. Enable USB debugging in the Developers menu (you know how to get there?)

I'm waiting to see what Note 5 offers for similar money and then pulling the trigger. Coming from a Note 3, I worry that the A1's shortened battery life may irritate me though.

The only thing stopping me from getting the A1 is the lack of NFC. I am starting to use tap and go and FNB pay quite frequently.
