The Official Xiaomi Thread

I change my Sims quite often because I go to different countries. So make a point of putting In names and the phone numbers for each SIM. Saves you a lot of trouble as you know which SIM is which whatever slot you use

I received V9.6.4.0 last night on my Redmi Note 5 Pro, but I'm a bit scared to update it as it may break my Camera2API or something else considering I had to unlock the bootloader to enable it in the first place

I see the Poco Launcher is available for download, but only to 5000 participants on the Play Store. The APK is floating around the WWW though and I installed it and must say I quite like it. It fits in well with the rest of the MIUI theme and seems pretty smooth

I like this launcher. Long (one second) press an icon and you get some nifty options.

But that's Oreo 101 - does same on my Mi A1

The same doesn't happen on Oreo MIUI, so it seems like it's only certain launchers and probably AOSP/Stock ROMs that allow this behaviour. It's pretty neat though, however I do wish I could get the amount of notifications to show in the badge on icons on the homescreen (Gmail, WhatsApp, etc)

I'm finding Miuiu scattered with adverts throughout all apps. I've tried Adblocker (or Adguard, can't remember which), DNS66 and currently on Stopad. These advert stoppers don't seen to help

Just wondering whether other Xiaomi users also find an abnormal volume of advertising throughout all apps (not just in the Browser)?

Are you sure you don't have a Chinese or other rom loaded?

I presently have a Mi Max 2 and before that a Note 3
I have never seen a single advert on either phone during 3 years of using Xiaomi phones.
Either you have some kind of virus, rogue app or fake rom on your phone

Thanks for your input. Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly... You're not seeing trailers when watching YouTube clips?

Mine is a Mi Max 2 'Global'. I remember there being a way to check for a fake rom. I did that at that time and this phone was OK in that respect. Currently Miui Global Stable 9.6.3 (NDDMIFD).

How could I check for a virus or rogue app? (MIUI Security set to using Avast definitions, scans are clear).

Adds in YouTube is a YouTube function, if you have Ads in notifications not so much well unless its Google Play store recommendations and such but those you can turn off in Play store app.

No ads in notifications but ads in almost every app (WhatsApp is only exception that springs to mind right now). Admittedly the apps are free. Am merely asking because I don't remember it being this bad with my Samsung 2 years ago. I don't even remember YouTube ads on the Samsung. Maybe the Samsung just wasn't very memorable ;-)

The MIUI apps (security, cleaner, file manager etc.) have 'recommendations'. You can turn off recommendations in each app's settings. It is usually under Settings or Settings > About.

I would reset to factory defaults so it starts up as a new phone and see what happens. If it still persists flash a new rom.

Thanks all. Did reset to factory about 2 weeks ago. Also removed 'recommendations' from Xiaomi apps. Will see how things go this week and take it from there.
