The Official Xiaomi Thread

But MIA did have Mi6 for sale for a little while. So what if those needed a repair within warranty?. Would they say the same. No wonder people import , rather than using them.
And there is not even a number to phone these bastards.
I asked for it to be couriered to PTA since I am here for the week.
For all I know, they sent it back to Cape Town.

Reading the Official Miui forums I am starting to think that Xiaomi has created an unrecoverable blunder with the way they implemented Anti-Rollback.

The number of "bricks" created tells me that a large percentage of their followers gonna go elsewhere for their next phones, I know I am. Anti-roll is unavoidable Android Pie development but Xiaomi requiring EDL Authorization to "un-brick" is a step to far if you ask me.

My MI 5 updated last night. Looks good so far

Mine too...quite impressed so far. The new look is a little more clean and tidy than before.

Also quite impressed my 2016 phone has had updates through 2 major versions of Android - Marshmallow to Nougat to Oreo. I expect this is the end of the line and Pie is not going to come to the Mi 5.

I've heard it's a step backwards in many areas judging by the complaints on Reddit. I think I may hold back on this one for now
I just updated. Its far better than what I had before. Just the notifications is several steps up

Probably not. Not too bothered about pie. Still love my MI 5

My brother has essential phone and he updated to Pie. Lol, he hates it. Has so much issues. We are better off without Pie until the 9.1 update.

Well MIUI 10 + Action launcher and you almost there.

Sold my Mi 5 just this month but helped the new owner update today and I must say not to bad looking, just remember to disable all the ads.

An case anyone needs help:

Goto Additional Settings > Authorization & Revocation

And Disable MSA

You will need Internet to do this but afterwards no more adds.

My pos mi max bricked itself. Spent the weekend going through the tedious process of registering on miu forum downloading rom, tools and all the other crap to get the thing to work again to no avail. No more Xiaomi junk for me thanks.

Am I the only one who can't log into mia.africa.com/za/ ?
I sent them a message, via their support link, at top, yesterday morning. Still no response. I ended up ordering the Mi Wifi router via guest checkout.

How exactly does a phone brick itself?

How exactly does a phone brick itself?

From what I have seen in MIUI & XDA forums its all the phones that have "Fake" ROM's or more to the point China phones that was "hacked" by the re-seller to custom global ROMs. In short its the way Xiaomi implements Anti-Rollback in MIUI 10 to protect their devices as some re-sellers was found to load malware on said phones and end users blaming Xiaomi.

If your phone has one of said ROMs and OTA update it will brick and needs special permissions (EDI) to Unbrick.

You can take it to MI South Africa to do this for you. There is also users on MIUI forum that "rent" out the service for $15. They use TeamViewer to log into your desktop and log into the MIUI app with their account so that you can un-brick it.

I think this anti rollback is going to affect many customers. While I had my Mi Max 3 on pre order, so many online reported receiving theirs with a "Global Rom" which was a fake shop wrong. Initially forum talk was all about just reflashing to rhe stable Global Rom when it was finally released, but now that Anti Rollback is in effect, those people are now all stuck on their dodgy shop rom or face a bricked phone if they try flash the Global Rom.

I'd be really upset if this happened to me. I had to fight the urge to order one of these early available models and am now really glad I waited a month while Gearbest awaited their proper Global versions.

In my view they should not brick the phone if bootloader is unlocked <- the way Google intended Anti rollback to work, but noooo Xiaomi had to take it one step up.

At least there is light at the end of the tunnel: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/attacking-quallcomm-rsa-firmware-t3849366

Greetings all,

I have a Xiaomi Mi 5, I need to do a factory reset on it, but have been struggeling.
Firstly, it says the No Sim, but the sim is inserted correct.
Secondly,I need to update the MIUI to the latest in order to do the Reboot factory reset. I tried to do it thru the Updater app,but it says no updates available. So I downloaded it on PC, transferred to the device, unzipped it. When I manually update it, it doesn`t see firmware update folder. I have followed it step by step but its not successful.
When I do a Factory reset, it ask for my Mi Account password, when i enter it,it says password incorrect. I then change the password via Forgot Password, and create a new one, the after that it still says password incorrect.
What support centre should I contact, I have been without network coverage for a few days already, so phoning someone wont work. Please help with some advice. Thanks

Hard reset via recovery
