The Official Xiaomi Thread

I'm wanting to root my redmi note 4 and flash Resurrection Remix or lineage.
I'm coming form a nexus 5 and I do not like the MIUI ecosystem not allowing me to install google's phone app.

Anybody know if there are issues to be expected?
Not really in the mood to fiddle with ROMS that much, just want something plain and working.
I've been running Lineage for over year... No major issues.

:unsure:Has anybody experienced this?
My Redmi 4A is about 1 year old and I frequently get a call from my wife's number, when I answer there's no one on the line. I check the call log and the call is not reflected. It's even happened when her phone isn't switched on. This morning she was alongside me in the car when I got the call.again. It only happens with my wife's number.

Got it say as much as I dislike the note 4 interface the battery life is amazing.

Since the last update of my Redmi 4A a few days ago I'm unable to access the keypad to authorize entry to our complex. When someone is ringing my # from the security gate I normally press 9 to let them in, after ascertaining their identity. Now my phone just shows the call is from the gate and I'm unable to allow entry.
Any ideas Redmi users?

And minor?

Nothing really serious, occasionally needs a restart as it slows down, but I think it might be a memory leak in one of the apps.

Get your wife to call you , and screen shot the screen at that point. Then we know what you are referring to . And we will know your wife's number possibly.

i'm really wanting to switch to lineage on my Note 4, few questions if you don't mind...

#1 can you rollback to Miui to a point where you get OTA updates, basically as if i never unlocked the bootloader.
#2 does all fingerprint functions work IE Banking app.
#3 Difficult question if you don't have a Mi band but does it all still work properly, ie notifications and unlocking via bluetooth using the band.

I'm basically looking for any reason Not to flash it.

#1 - you'll have to reflash - but I think it's possible - never tried. I've sent my phone in for repairs with Lineage and didn't have issues. (you also get OTA updates with Lineage OS)
#2 - works with my banking app.
#3 - Was using the Mi Band 3 without issues.

So to start off, unlocking the bootloader is done with software and your MI account, i did this a while back but i recall there being a waiting period, so i RECOMMEND anyone thinking they'll eventually flash their Xiaomi to go and request unlocking permissions on the their Mi account asap:

Xiaomi added checks to the bootloader unlocking process which include a waiting time after the initial request is made. Initially, the waiting time was 3 days, but earlier this year the waiting time increased to 15 days. Now, some users are seeing waiting times as long as 2 months.

Since i did that a while back i was free to unlock the bootloader.

#1 I unlocked the bootloader after having done various backups of everything.
#2 Using fastboot i flashed twrp recovery.
#3 i then made a nandroid backup using twrp, here's where i made a mistake soft bricking the device later.
I chose for it to backup all partitions not just system boot and data. not a problem but later it was.
#4 I flashed latest lineage, gapps and SU i got from lineage website.
#5 After rebooting all was fine until i realized i did not backup the sms messages using an app but only with Miui backup which i now can't use on lineage. (i'm very fussy with backups)
#6 I then proceeded to recover my nandroid backup and due to choosing all partitions earlier it formatted then failed to restore the FIRMWARE partition. which after a google seems to be a common failure.
#7 The result is it losing the radio information thus i could not read any sim cards (IMEI number were gone) even wifi and bluetooth stopped working.
#8 I then after much struggling due to crappy adsl downloaded the 1.6gb Miui firmware and flashed that using their own flashing utility which restored everything to stock even the bootloader was locked again.

So after learning my lesson i restored my miui backup and backed up my messages using an app from play store, redid lineage and restored the messages, which i see google backup now backs up which it did not do on Miui.

All in all everything is working now Lineage looks good, was a bit worried having lineage 14 on other devices that it'll look a bit dull coming from a polished looking Miui 10, but lineage 15 Oreo looks great its smooth, the Mi band works well, dare i say better. the banking app works with fingerprint reader.

Only bugs i see so far but haven't really checked properly is upon rebooting the phone doesn't give me time to input sim 2 pin-code, so i have to go disable it and re-enable it so it can prompt again to input the pin. and the burst function on the camera does not stop until i exit the camera app. @xrapidx you experience that?

All in all, i'm happy, no deal breaker bugs.

Camera - nope - no issues.

Pin issue - I don't use pins :)
