I got mine a few weeks ago, honestly you don't notice the resolution, the only way I think it would bother you is if you compared it to a 1080p resolution cell phone side by side all the time.

The inscreen fingerprint reader could be faster and I hope the future updates will fix that. The battery life is amazing, I am regularly left with 40% battery life at the end of the day.

The camera is good, but I have also sideloaded gcam especially for night mode, which is much better that stock camera.

Two notes don't really use the phone for gaming or YouTube

Can you use it one handed? I like the size of my current Redmi 4, the Mi A3 looks quite a lot bigger.

Did you buy via Gearbest or Amazon? I see Amazon has it for $165 right now, while Gearbest is $185. Do you remember roughly what the customs duties were on it?

Yes, one handed should be fine, coming from a Mi 5 (5.5 inch) this felt almost as easy to hold, now just with all the extra screen real estate, as opposed to large bezels

I got the 128 GB for around $202 via Gearbest which included the R247 shipping via DHL, Customs was around R600 extra.
 
Got the Miui 11 update on my Mi Max 2 today

OS feels snappier and battery life is even better !

Two year old phone good for another 2 years ;-)
 
I was thinking of going with the Huawei p30 lite till i came across this Redmi Note 8 Pro
The Basemark scores is immensely better on GSMarena.
But does that actually mean better gaming?
Also, i have never bought from mia.africa. but they appear to be the official distributors. So i assume it is safe to buy from them?

Yes MIA is fine I used them many times they deliver quickly as well

I missed the one on Takealot, gues my searching skills suck. :giggle:
But great, some spare cash to get accessories for it.

Id love a different color than white but not so much that i'm gonna pay R500 more on gearbest for it.

Seeing a bunch of posts about custom ROM's on here.
Anyone know if this one will work in SA out of the box?

mia.africa doesnt seem to have screeprotector's or covers for the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Nor does Takealot.
What would be the best place to find some (preferably without having to go through customs as i want to use this before new years day)

Get a screen protector for galaxy a50 or any phone that's around 6.5' with water drop notch. Should fit note 8 pro.
 
MIA is now the Core Group - same importers \ agents as Apple. Not sure when this change took place. The courier label 3 months back stated my Xiaomi was from the "iStore".

Been the case forever, they are obviously just more open about it now

Oh cool. I see I have screen recorder and a recorder app.
I ordered from Xiaomi HK site. Well a mate of mine ordered for me. I have not put my SIM in it. So hopefully I won't have issues there.
