The Official Xiaomi Thread

Does anyone own a redmi note 8 around? I'm curious how the camera fares and if the whole phone is worth the upgrade from a standard redmi 8 which I have had the opportunity to play with for some days. Must say coming from a small phone the increase in screen real estate is appreciated. Not a fan of the weight though but I have learnt to live with the 188g - my concern is the feature I am after (NFC) is only in the rare redmi note 8T which is a whooping 200g.

I am concerned about my pockets and that weight - PS I am coming from a phone thats like 113g so 200 sounds quite heavy and that is without that silicon case.

Any other xiaomi phones i should be looking at for the 4k price point? Is a 1080p panel worth it over a 720p? Is the jump from the redmi 8 to redmi Note 8T worth it? As it stands battery life on the redmi 8 is awesome. And to get a more powerful chipset it seems one has to sacrifice battery life (from 5000mAh to 4000mAh).
 
Almost a week now as the proud owner of a Redmi Note 8 Pro.

I had second thoughts about upgrading from a P10 Lite. Had no real reason to switch as the Huawei was doing just fine. Got the Xiaomi mainly for its large screen, and its low price.

I can say with confidence today that I am very happy I made the switch and will not hesitate to buy Xiaomi again.

I'm struggling to understand why one would not consider this phone over an iPhone or Samsung. As far as I can tell the pure bang for buck is an absolute no-brainer. But different strokes.

Battery is good, screen is excellent, performance is very good, and overall it does everything I need. Camera is decent too, although I'm not a camera/pictures sort of user. And once you've spent a few minutes uninstalling some of the factory apps, and turning off all the unwanted services/tracking/notifications, it's as no-nonsense a phone as any.

Can definitely recommend

Take a look at the Mi 9 Lite, it has NFC, mine cost around R3500 + 500 duties, vat and disbursement for the 6GB 128GB model. The 64GB model can be had for around $220. I'd say 1080p is worth it over 720p. It's 2019, 1080p should be the baseline, why would you buy a 720p screen nowadays expecting the device to last 2-4 years.

Haha you are the second person to recommend that phone and yea I am liking all the features it has. Was watching reviews on it all evening yesterday but it seems to tick the main major boxes. Snapdragon cpu, NFC, AMOLED screen that is 1080p and its lighter - so yea i'm convinced this will be my next phone and my next foray into android world. Thanks for the input/suggestions. Much appreciated.

Your experience mirrors my first taste of Xiaomi. I sold a Samsung S5, when it was still a flagship, and bought that Redmi Note 3 WeChat deal for the dual sim ability and was very happy, bar the camera.

NOW, after having Mi A1, Mi Max 3 and now rocking a Mi 9T, Xiaomi mid rangers have fixed their only previous downfall - the camera.

WTF people pay for flagships is beyond me (those that do, that's their choice but I can't comprehend). I could smash and replace my Mi 9T thrice before reaching the price of a Flagship Samsung or Huawei.

I forgot to mention - the Note 8 Pro definitely is a little heavier than you might be used to - but it's become one of my favourite things about the phone. It really does have a solid feel, and the extra bit of weight in your hands is a pleasant experience.

My wife's Huawei Nova 5T is very light in comparison - and it almost feels 'cheaper' that way.

Anyway, personal preference and all that :)
 
Anyone had this problem - my Note 8 vibration just stopped working, all the settings are enabled. Downloaded a test app, no vibration.

Thought it was the motor, but when I turn it off, and on again, it vibrates.

Had the same problem with mi 4. Went for warranty several times but they couldn't fix it. Got a refund at the end.
 
I know it's extreme but maybe try a factory reset before taking it in
 
Hey guys, I like the Xiaomi Mi 9 lite.

How much would it cost me in Total(including vat+customs fees etc)?

Where do you suggest I buy it from & with which shipping method?

So I added this CC9 to my Gearbest cart for no reason and left it there.

Next day when I logged in, I received an 'exclusive discount' voucher on that exact phone for USD430 which I feel is pretty cheap.Screenshot_20191223-083330.jpeg

Well no response from MIA, sent an email from the original order, logged a request via their website, and called and was promised a call back.

Guess who won't be buying local again. Guess they joined the rest of SA with shitty service

Gonna try a reset.

Hi, I'm looking for help with my new Redmi 8 which i received from Takealot yesterday.
Set up was easy without my SIM being inserted and it upgraded to MUI 11. But today i decided to restore it to Factory Settings as I planned to load stuff from my Redmi 4A via Airdroid. fired up into upgraded version and had remembered my Region and language. Set up and connected to my router but when I hot to their Term And Conditions it did not provide anyway to accept them and that as far as i can get. Any ideas how i can resolve this? Next thing i intend doing is to put my SIM into it and fire it up to see what happens.

Try turn on data/wifi

Otherwise try hard reset:

First method:

Begin by pressing the Power button for a couple of seconds to turn off the device.

After that hold down Volume Up + Power key together for a few moments.

Release all keys when you see the Mi logo.

Now select Recovery and tap OK.

In this mode choose Wipe Data and Wipe All Data

Many thanks, however, I’ve already tried that three times. I can log onto my router and the country/language I previously selected are still valid, however I’m unable to accept terms/conditions and consequently am unable to complete the setup. The next step is to insert my existing SIM card and see if it comes right.

Try hard reset.

Power off phone.
Than turn on while pressing volume up.
Select option to wipe data.
 
Thanks for your advice, however, I carried out this procedure before posting for assistance. Actually did it 3 times and still cannot get past their Terms and Conditions. i guess ill just have to wait and see what these guys have to say.

Thanks but don't feel confident enough. When I first fired it up It downloaded the latest MUI 11. My 4A is still going strong, it's just that I thought to treat myself to a Xmas present with a bit more real estate.
