The Official Xiaomi Thread

Of course you get a good phone for the price you paid, it's several thousand Rands! These companies have successfully upped their margins and have brainwashed us into thinking they're giving us value.

Imagine how much better they are with economies of scale in the year 2021 and yet they are asking us to pay more than ever for their products (average price with inflation factored in would probably prove this I reckon).

I still think the Note 10 Pro is an absolute steal for the features you're getting; considering what local options we have here. It was a lot cheaper than my last phone too, which was bought pre-pandemic, a Mi 9T for R6k and this Note 10 Pro is a great upgrade from it whilst being cheaper

I guess there are still deals that stand up to scrutiny, I'm just cynical about the pricing structure the industry has taken on.

Got my note 9 pro 5g from giztop today. Cost about 4.7k - landed. pretty happy with it, came with Chinese rom with no google services though so had to flash a custom (eu) rom.

Those guys who have flashed AOSP. FNB banking App is working without issues with Magisk Hide?

Running Pixel Experience Android 11 rom on my RN8 ginkgo and can confirm captiec and tymebank work fine without any root or magisk spoofing. Not sure if its the same on other ASOP roms I think this one goes around safteynet in some form by saying the device is a pixel.

Ahh okay. I see it is also available for RN9P. Will wait a while and do the flash at a later stage.

Don't blame you.. Shouldn't we be seeing some affordable last gen Snapdragon 8xx chipset's available by now? I mean besides the R10k+ Mi 10T ..

Maybe the RN11/Pro? .. a Xiaomi fan can dream..:giggle:

Samsung and Apple create the ceiling and everyone else uses the space below depending on how big the brand is. Huawei were much cheaper when they came out but shifted their pricing once they had traction. The same thing will happen (is happening?) to Xiaomi.

With Lineage being so good, I plan to get phones as they go EOL in future. My Mi 5 will be the last phone I get "hot off the press" as it were.

Damn, whenever I see this thread appear I am hoping there will be some news about the Mi 11 Ultra coming to SA. :(

If you look at some of the sub R6K devices on here:

there's seemingly value to be found considering those prices are all inclusive. The cynic in me though would argue the value is only apparent because of the prices at the high end, R25K makes R6K look reasonable.

About to buy my dad a Redmi 9A 32gb - does anyone know if it comes with a cover in the box or should I buy one? It's going to be delivered to him so I'd rather have everything arrive at once.

Order one, if it's extra, he can store it in a safe place for a spare.

I ordered an extra one for myself, should the current screen protector need replacing, it can be done quickly, and a replacement one be ordered.

R2000

This is for the 9C somewhat better and get a cover. The 9A do not mention anything about a cover included

In The Box :
  • 1 x Simple protective cover

R1800

NO cover mentioned.

Maybe just worth spending the extra R200 for a better phone + cover?

It's probably going to come with the cover and screen protector shrink wrapped to the outside of the phone box. That is how it was on the 9C we bought from HiFi Corp 3 weeks ago and they get their stock from MIA.
