What is the cheapest Xiaomi phone available here which has NFC?

Xiaomi SA is so sneaky for this. The note 10 from Amazon & Chinese sites are Snapdragon models.

You basically have to spend R5499 to get a Snapdragon version.

I have read a response from one of you guys mentioning that the Note 8 Pro hasn't received updates.

I also read on gsmarena that Xiaomi neglects the Mediatek devices & they have limited software updates.

I would go for the Note 10 Pro & not the Mediatek variants.

Maybe the updates are just slower?

Someone one on https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_8_pro-9812.php said they received the update on the xiaomi redmi note 8 pro today.

"Just had an update to 12.5 today on the global version with Android 11."

So just an update on my last post. My Redmi Note 8 was becoming more and more sluggish - fingerprint unlocks taking up to 3 seconds before the screen wakes up was common, and clearing apps and rebooting did nothing to help.

I unlocked the bootloader last night and loaded Pixel Experience on Android 11 and it's been great. Battery life seems much improved as well - I'm currently on 83% after it was unplugged at around 8h30 which is miles ahead of what I could get on MIUI.

No bugs so far, but I'll monitor to see if any do crop up. So far, so good.

Guys..just take precautions when you update the MIUI to 12.5.x (esp the .1 - 2) version.. reported of many bugs which plague the performance of the device (slower / lagging, battery drain etc..) but appears to be fixed from 12.5.4 upwards (becomes blazing fast again..) ....(not saying that you should not update to 12.5... just looking for something higher than 12.5.2 onwards...) then again MIUI 13 (android 12) is almost around the corner...

I have been running pixel experience for a bit and the battery usage seems fair considering i usually have everything turn on and maxed. Wanted to know if you got VoLTE or VoWifi working. I see the note 8 miui got it on telkom recently but I am reluctant to go back to miui and its "quirks".

PE is fairly stable just the odd phone is too hot bug in google photos and gcam mod. Random reboots are less for me from android 10 and those weren't too annoying either. Also the gestures navbar seems to be unresponsive at times on this version I am running.

I haven't come across those bugs yet, but will keep an eye out. So far so good though - the only issue I have found is that this morning, I saw that it hadn't charged overnight like it usually does - my own fault for not checking if the USB cable was plugged into the hub though

FWIW, I have VoLTE and VoWiFi available to me (MTN on Afrihost APN), but I am not sure if it works - I call so infrequently that I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Yeah they happen so infrequently that it's barely noticeable or annoying. Had worse luck with custom roms on Samsung phones. Also I am running one version behind the latest so the new one may be more stable. I am due for a factory reset soon.

Don't think it's Xiaomi SA, moreso Xiaomi as a whole with their confusing naming scheme. The ones we're getting here aren't the normal Note 10, rather Note 10S and Note 10 5G, both using Mediatek while the Note 10 is the Snapdragon model.

Here's a link comparing the three of them https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10769&idPhone3=10768&idPhone1=10247

In most cases contracts actually turn out cheaper as the devices are subsidised. But then obviously you are tied down with payment for 24 to 36 months
I disagree 100% with you. telkom is sometimes the exception, but with most of the others for most people pre-paid works out cheaper. You have to factor in months with more/less data/calls. The real challenge is you have to know how to get pre-paid cheap and most often it means calls on your main sim and data on your second sim. And happy to use any of the providers as you can swap between them freely, and that may be a challenge for some that is married to one provider or where the service of one is really not up to standard.

Happy days! I ordered from Amazon.de and they were quite slow to get it out the door, but I complained and they promised to refund the shipping costs. So more or less R5500 to get the 128GB + 6GB ram version.

I just could not see myself buying something like the Redmi Note 10 Pro with a slower processor and no 5G. The Note does have microSD but I've never used it on a phone.

Give this a try. It is possible that the sensor could have gotten damaged:

Enter the CIT menu and run the fingerprint test.

Enter *#*#64663#*#* into the phone dialler to access this menu. If it fails (or isn't present) there then the hardware has failed.
I know it's been a while since this was posted but i ordered a new fingerprint sensor. Still no joy after having it installed though. Is there a possibility the service has been stopped somehow and doesn't restart when the phone is restarted? Is there a way to force restart it possibly?

Quick delivery from Amazon RedmiPro10 Got my phone today , ordered last Wednesday. It only shipped on Saturday and was in my grubby hands at 11am today.

Typing this message on it.

First feedback:-
Similar size to my old phone so good. Just heavier

God the amount of crap on it :( :( #miss pure android

Dark mode (system setting) sucks . Half the apps don't show up properly. My Nokia handles it so much better . Had to switch back to light mode.

WTF is the point of android backup to Google cloud. While the transfer of apps and 'restore' of backup seemed easy enough, it's not as great as iOS. Have had to reconfigure so many apps and authenticator things . Some apps resorted data from the Google backup. But it was like setting up everything again. Google needs to do better here. Thankfully i had my soon to be retired phone as reference.

What I l love
The screen. Decided to leave it at 120hz all the time.
Dual speakers are nice !!
Love having the bandwidth Utils in top bar again. I have probably downloaded 45GB of music and videos again via Spotify and YouTube Premium/Music

How much did it cost you from Amazon?

Mia Africa only seems to have the boring silver colour.

I bought a bunch of other things too, so can't tell you exactly how much shipping /customs cost. However, the cost price of device was 265£ which was about 4.6kZAR.

Sidenote:- this phone is not going to last long. I've already nearly dropped it 4 times so far in the last 12 hours. Guess I need to get used to it.

Got home and all my Alexa's had a flashing yellow ring which I had never seen before. It was a notification light to tell me my parcel was out for delivery. So cool

The Amazon app is also brilliant. Got notifications incl when it was delivered literally immediately. Their processes are just superb.
