The Official Xiaomi Thread

The Note 9 I got for the missus is dying (very slow, crashing, overheating, battery life gone to ****) after less than 2 years. This after her 4A died previously with similar issues, so probably done with the brand.

Is it the brand though or just a malfunction? Every brand has malfunctioning devices. It depends on luck and care to an extent.

If your missus is rough with tech, that could be an issue as well.

She's really not, light gaming, some videos and browsing are her main activities. The phones had minor drops while in phone cases that broke screen protectors, but no actual damage to the phones. Anyway, two malfunctions in a row is enough to look elsewhere for one upgrade cycle.

My previous Sonys survived way longer than 2 years and my current Samsung is just past 2 years and has no signs of issues.

We have:
Mi Max 3 - 4 years old
Redmi Note 7 - 3 years old
2 x Redmi Note 8 - both 2 years old.

We also have various earbuds, earphones, shavers, etc.

They are all working well, so I doubt that it is the brand in general causing early failure...

Served me well, 4 years old when the battery started to swell.

I used it for 3 years during which it survived a few MTB crashes and soaks. Then when I got my Note 9T I gave this A2 Lite to my mom who used it for the last 18 months. It recently went for a 6 week trip around Germany and still captured some nice memories with the 12MP camera. But I had to let it go for spares.

The battery swelled so much it pushed the aluminum back away from the plastic frame.

Still worked like a trooper despite that.

I am still very happy with my Note 9T and my mom got a Redmi 10 to replace the A2 lite.

I am keen to buy redmi note 11 pro plus but redmi seems too many issues on this thread. If I have to drop 6.5K on phone, I expect it to work for more than 5 years.
Two years out of a low end phone is great.
I don't understand this argument on low end phone lasting just 2 years. I bought a Samsung on7pro for about 2.2K and it has been 6 years without any issues except battery. One has to drop 150 rands every year on new battery. Absolutely no other issues.

I don't see why it is unreasonable. Most of guys here seem to have lot of money to throw away.

I get your point - and yes - Xiaomi sells their phones with good specs at paper thin margins so you get a much better deal. The reason they do that is they rely on a high volume of sales - part of that is Xiaomi buyers upgrading more frequently - keeping the volumes going.

But as I have proved, you can use them for longer than the 2 years of software updates and they work just fine. In 2023 I will have had my Redmi Note 9T for two years and I see no reason to replace it in the coming year.

My Redmi 9 is celebrating its second birthday today, the notifications (or rather, the absolute inconsistency of them) have given me hell but the most recent update seems to have fixed most of the trouble. Other than that, battery life remains excellent, overall performance and appearance of the phone is great so I'm not looking for a replacement.

Fingerprint sensor on my Redmi Note 8 is starting to get a bit wonky, more like a hit and miss affair.

Anybody else having issues with theirs?
Mine survived it's second fall from two storey building roof, just had to reflash firmware.
It was stuck in a boot loop.
On its 3rd year now & still going, will probably get a replacement early next year.

Update to MIUI 13 (Android 12) is out for the Redmi 9T. Coming up for 2 years that I've had this phone and it's been very well-supported for a budget device - shipped with Android 10 so it's gotten updates through 2 Android releases, security patches still up to date (though they do take a month or two after Google releases them). Did you hear that, my Chinese handler? I SAID I'M HAPPY WITH THE SUPPORT!

Should have posted from the phone, oops.

Looking to buy two budget phones for two elderly people. One requires a dual sim. Is Xiaomi still the best budget phone or any other recommendations?
