The Official Xiaomi Thread

Have Core Group stopped selling Xiaomi phones in SA? MIA isn't selling any phones at the moment, and we haven't really had a new release in ages.
I wonder why they stopped. I just went onto their site now, and there's nothing.

Even more annoying, there's an update for my phone that's been out for months but they haven't pushed it to the OTA channel yet. I can download it manually but it fails the check for a valid firmware file.

I'm also on a security update from months ago

I am toying with the idea of going LineageOS on it, although it is not an official ROM by them what with it being Mediatek and all.

So I know how to change the 'background'/wallpaper image on my Redmi 9, on the home screen and the lock screen.

But how do I change the background image on the screen that requires me to enter my PIN when the phone reboots? I presumably changed it at some point in the last 2 years but I've tried all the settings a few times and I cannot figure out how to change the image again.

gallery ,set as wallpaper ,apply ,select lockscreen ,then go into lockscreen settings and set clock and emergency contact details.on some you can move the lockscreen pic around to centre it .

Hmmm. Looks like my 3rd-party theme is interfering with the option to set clock details. I'll have to do some more digging.

My 9T's also "stuck" on the 1st March security patch.

If I recall, the one I received when I first got the phone was pushed out independently of MIUI update.

Ever since then, have only received it as part of a MIUI update ; personally not bothered staying on Android 12 (without new MIUI's), but would like receiving continued Google security patches.

Surely no extra work or very little, required on Xiaomi's part - such a huge company - to send them OTA ?

Correct - it was called project Treble - I wonder what happened to it.

A few years ago I bought a Redmi 2 and LineageOS'ed it - got monthly updates and was a brilliany phone. Pity they seem to shy away from MediaTek phones.
I'll probably keep this phone for a year or more, I am not that worried about the security updates and it works.

I'd like to try Lineage OS and others like it, but the bootloader unlocking process not keen to go through again (like I used to a few years ago) + I've not seen a single dedicated custom ROM for the Redmi 9T (not the Note 9T), last I looked ....

..... so don't want to brick it for no good reason while it's still pretty smooth & not causing me problems + always unsure if banking apps, for example, will work on a given custom ROM.

I hope mine lasts a year to two more (have had it around 2 years), but the 9T is notorious for "dead boot" - well documented in the relevant GSM Arena thread.

At least apps get updates, including security, for browsers (Brave, Chrome etc.), so though I'd like system-wide security ones, I won't ditch the phone because they've stopped (to now at least).

EDIT - looked at that GSM thread for 1st time in a while & someone commented on lots of ROMs available through Telegram, but I don't even use it so will continue with stock - less hassle (to me) all-round.
