That seems like the common issue on the Poco M3 which shares most parts with the Redmi 9T. I had to return my Poco M3 to Takealot, luckily it was still in warranty. I hope that you can find a solution.

Yeah, no luck yet, but it seems like a common enough issue.

I'm trying to let the battery drain as I've seen some people have luck with that. My goal is to at least get the data wiped off it, then I will drop it off for recycling (Makro vouchers when?).

The battery drain trick did work for me, it just took a long time to get the battery down to zero. I managed to revive mine twice before returning it, but each time took 2 to 3 days.

Unfortunately I don't think that a recycling company will give out vouchers of such a high value again. From what I read, the queues on the Sunday were crazy.

Which is pretty crap, you can expect the cheaper manufacturers to cut corners on firmware updates and I wouldn’t expect to see MIUI 15 on it, BUT to simply abandon the device from basic security updates is not.

I noticed the iPhone 7 got a security update a couple of weeks ago, that’s a device launched in 2016…

If you look at Xiaomi's spread, I think they are going for 'a mile wide but an inch deep' in terms of their offerings.

They have 38 handsets released this year alone, compared with a company like Apple which released 4 handsets this year. Even Samsung, who is known for saturation when it comes to different models, 'only' released 20 handsets this year. (source GSMArena)

I would imagine that their software division probably lack the capacity to keep up with all the new models that are being developed and released each year.

Which comes back to the original sentiment, if you’re buying a phone to use for the medium or long term it’s probably better to avoid Xiaomi.

There are MIUI 14 ROMs for F3 and F5 on XIAOMI.EU.

Not sure if that's your thing, I'm using it on my Mix 4.

I’ve been out of the loop but does Xiaomi still have that waiting period to unlock the boot loader?

Split the two. One sim is your number to be sued for voive. Whatever works for you. MTN with voice bundles. many other possibilities I am sure.
Your second sim is your data sim. Dont use the number. View it as expendable. If a better deal is available you throw the sim away and replace. Go pre-paid preferably, then you dont need to deal with ending a contract and your requirement may change mid contract.
For Data:
The MTN Mobile Internet Gold month-to-month gives you 15 gb at R149.
The MTN Bozagigs pre-paid gives you R149 for 10+10gb
The MTN super data minimum is 30gb for R15 I think.
Voice: A MTN 100min 30d bundle will be R50 I think
To port a SIm is a simplem proces asthese days, from any provider to any other. As long as you are not in a contract.
There may be better/as good deals with other providers, probably NOT with Vodacom.

Plus another R50 for 100 mins and that's good enough for me

Does the Redmi note 12 Pro also have dual apps and 2nd space like the Poco's?

I also got to like the 3 finger swipe down for screenshots AND that side bar thing where you can turn the screen off whilst YouTube plays etc.

Hmm I have an old Samsung note with Marshmallow on it I think and an old Tab with the same or Lollipop

Would I be able to flash them with MIUI and get the dual apps etc? Yes I prefer this OS to Samsung.

Highly unlikely unless someone has gone to the effort of building a MIUI image for those specific models. if that's even possible.

Just keep in mind, some banking apps will cease to function after you have unlocked the boot, I have confirmed this with Capitec, don't know about other institutions.

I have a Redmi 9T, MIUI 14 last update. I read there won't be anymore MIUI updates, unless its minor and critical, all current legible and future phones will have the new Hyper OS system, or upgraded to it eventually.

What did you confirm with Capitec - that their app will work or not work after unlocking the phone?

That's definitely wrong - my Redmi 9 is unlocked and and rooted since January I think, Capitec is the only account I have and the app works just fine. Maybe it's device/model specific but I expect they would rather tell you that it won't work since unlocking may expose a vulnerability.

I kinda want to unlock mine and take MIUI 14 off, it is so slow compared to MIUI 13... it can take up to 3 seconds just for an app to open, and I have done a factory reset, did not help.
 
What model do you have? I believe you can do an 'instant' unlock on some models with Mediatek processors, instead of waiting two weeks or whatever it is now. Either way, you could unlock the phone and try your banking app, if it doesn't work you can just lock the phone again.

I have the Redmi 9T, has the Qualcomm chipset.

(they're under "Security" in Settings ; I've put an icon shortcut on-screen for easy access to Security, as I use it various times a day).

You might want to selectively clear cache of certain apps, as might get logged out of some though I've not had any issues doing so, myself.

I do that often, tried every trick I could find on the Internet, it's either downgrade or a new phone... :unsure:;)
