The One and Only Vegetable Thread

I once tried making spinach but it turned out disgusting and I threw it away.

I don't dislike spinach ... my mother makes it reasonably edible ... and I like a spinach and feta quiche and pie.

How do you make it a winner.

When I steam vegetables, they come out looking nice in colour and texture, but tastes like .... nothing!

Is there any way to give them more taste? Or is that what steamed veggies are supposed to taste like ? :D

I thought you were the expert, and would provide all the answers?

Just add more salt I suppose. And some butter at the end won't hurt.

For boiled/steamed taters, a dash of butter and some grated nutmeg is tasty

I'm a fan of boiled butternut, and sweet potato, boiled, steamed, curried, you-name-it! :D

Sprinkle some "Veggie" spice over it while steaming. Try it, might not be your taste.

I recently bought some mustard spinach seedlings.

Why not in shops? this stuff is great.
When fresh it tastes exactly as if you took some spinach and slathered some English mustard over it.

Oh well, at least I have some plants the rain has not yet drowned :)

Since we bought the AEG electric steam pots thats all we use to steam all our veggies. Nothing beats the taste and texture, no more boiled or grilled veggies.

Oven baked/grilled veggies are also nice.

Sure but since we use the electric steam pot the time factor and taste just made us not consider bake and grill anymore. About time we fix that!

I find they come out quite well when done in a pot at low heat with a tiny bit of water and salt.

I'm not much of a meat eater, so mostly live on veg...but I can't bring myself to eat steamed veggies. I will eat almost any vegetable, except okra, but only in a curry. Tastes far better to me.

Curries FTW! Especially vegetables.

Now stop trying to sound like a wet auntie and tell me what's not to like about bhindi?

I eat everything but karela  Way too bitter for me!

:D I don't know, but I don't think I've even tasted it...just something about it puts me off :o My sis loves it though...and yeah, can't eat karela either but my mum says it helps with her diabetes.

Must admit I only acquired a taste for bhindi in the last few years :D Still not my fave but I do enjoy it.

I may have eaten karela once. But same story. Just something about it. Also heard it helps with diabetes though so there may be something to it.

Now if we could just get mmmig to post us some jack-fruit we would be sorted! :D

Dude I will eat plates of steamed broccoli, that stuff is like sweets.

I ponder.......dude I agree with you, a broccoli, veggie mix is the best, just has some a few minutes ago.
