I would take the rx580 over a 1060 with the new clock speeds they seem to be 5-10% better depending on which brand you go with.

I would not even consider the 1060 yeah. Firstly, if you want to upgrade it won't be able to SLI.
Would definitely consider 580. These lower ends cards will however not last as long as you think with the current rate that games are progressing and evolving.

1. MB does not support SLI/XFire
2. SLI/XFire is a bad idea as very few games support it or run well, you are always better off with a higher powered single GPU which will also consume less power negating the need for a 1,21 jigawatt PSU

Yea, SLI is really not my thing, even when I had SLI capable boards I didn't make use of it. That being said, I switched the MB out for the MSI Mortar one, that supports 3200Mhz RAM as mentioned earlier:

More games will start to support SLI/Xfire in the future. I am also not a huge fan and thats the reason why I have a 1080ti. Just saying that if you want to buy a low end GPU, don't limit yourself to not being able to expand and upgrade. Future Proofing.

The RX580 isn't going to be able to provide 144hz in demanding games...I haven't checked on Freesync availability recently. Are there Freesync monitors available locally? What's the pricing like?

Probably meant FPS right? The GPU does not provide hz, the screen does.

Not sure if serious, but if you are, best you Google that and get some knowledge in your noggin :)

Dead serious, my noggin is 100% fine Thanks. The Screen displays in Hz and not FPS. The FPS generated by the GPU is what gets displayed by the screen. The amount of Hz the screen can display determines the amount of FPS generated that can be displayed.

But thanks for the lmgtfy.com lesson bud =D

I've heard that many times before over the course of the last 20 odd years since first introduced by 3dfx back in the day. Ain't happening.

With DX12 AMD is implementing this driver side:

Crossfire seems to have improved a lot recently, notably AdoredTV did some benchmarks and the end part of his Tomb Raider vid he talks about it.

That's not xfire, multigpu is a feature of dx12, which in theory would allow you to pool resources from installed gpus or igpu, so you could mix an amd & nvidia gpu as well as using your integrated intel gfx. It's gonna be years before you see the benefit.

Nixxes has just released a new Rise of the Tomb Raider PC Patch which adds DirectX12 Multi-GPU support, Asynchronous Compute, V-Sync Toggle. Additionally, the patch is said to improve performance due to improved CPU utilization.

And the AdoredTV video that I was referring to, 18min58sec:

He's got two RX 480's in crossfire, that's what I am referring to.
