The PC Build Thread

Nothing personal, but how long is a piece of string?

What do you plan on doing with your PC?
What else are you going to run form the "ups"?
What is your budget?
How much power does your PC use?
Will your PC use this amount of power constantly?
How much power does your monitors use?
Have you considered an alternative solution like a generator?
Have you considered getting a UPS to only keep your PC on until your alternative source of power comes on?

Well.. to be honest I'm not sure as to how much power the pc and the monitors draw. (that's why I included the specs).

I would only need the UPS for the 2.5 hours of loadshedding.. during which time I would probably only use it for watching downloaded movies and series.

Possibly the wrong thread, but just looking for advice. Given the current loadshedding situation, I am looking for a UPS that can keep my PC powered for the 2.5-3 hours that the power is off.
My PC setup:
Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i
Corsair 64GB DDR3-1600MHz Vengeance
Cooler Master Cosmos II Black Super Tower Gaming Case / Support 200/120mm Fan / RC-1200-KKN1
ASUS Radeon HD 7970 ROG MATRIX Platinum
ASUS X79-Delux mobo
Intel® Core™ i7-4930K Processor
OCZ's RevoDrive 3 X2 240GB solid-state drive pci -Express
2 x 2Tb hdd's and 1 x 6Tb hdd
1x 90GB ssd - used for page files
Corsair TX750M PSU
Corsair/coolermaster fans - Several
1x 2tb external drive
2 x monitor

What UPS would you guys recommend? Thanks
A UPS to keep your PC running for 2+ hours is going to cost close to R10k.

These are all good questions and each and everyone of them is a good indicator for me not not build up a VIA M920. At R4600 just for the board and processor it is madness. But I have a soft spot for VIA machines, they remind me of the old Cyrix days. So for me it is purely an emotional thing that is driving me to build a 2Ghz Quad M920. I just wish it was not so damn pricey...

The great cleaning of 2019 is underway. My 3 year old machine is getting a rebuild and it needed it...look how much grime!

I need to do a cleanup. All the components are fine and relatively new but my time in Durban rusted the box to hell and gone so that's a new box on the way this week.

How do you guys remove dust from the motherboard and components? Little air spray cannister or something?

Hi Everyone

I'm looking for a decent motherboard for an i5-8400. Doesn't need to have bling bling like LEDs etc.

Regard

Why not take the box to your nearest fuel station and air it out with their compressor?

Exactly, a UPS is not meant to power your device, it protects it and gives you a couple of minutes to start your standby power source aka your generator.
Yeah it doesn't seem like he needs it for standby, he needs something to power his PC during loadshedding.

A parallel port :eek::ROFL:
That's a Dell OptiPlex 745 powerhouse right there, when parallel ports were still "cool" Still running as well - well up until it starting shutting down from overheating for some unknown reason:unsure:
