I currently have a 4th gen i5, and am planing to upgrade just after payday. I'm looking at an upgrade kit, as I only need a new mobo, cpu and ram. For 7k, I can get a Core i5 10400F (cpu) ROG STRIX B460-H (mobo) and 16GB (3200 mhz ram).

Technically my budget is 6,5k :D

Is the above a wise buy?

my gfx card is a 1070 so that should be ok for a while (well it has to be).

Technically the 1600AF supports upto 2667MHz RAM but you can always overclock it to run at 3000 or 3200 if it's stable. Otherwise it will just run successfully at 2667.

The mobo will be totally fine.
3200mhz is fine got a one.

I can't comment on how wise it is. I think the consensus is that the 10400 is one of the best value CPUs at the moment. Just know that your memory will run at 2666Mhz on that motherboard.
If you don't get an overclocking motherboard, intel limits the 10th gen i5 memory to 2666Mhz.

I do think it's worth it getting 3200mhz RAM though.

The Rog Strix B460 is probably more expensive than some Z490 options - Asus be like that.

Also, Evetech don't have a great reputation so maybe consider if you want to be supporting them. Search for threads with Evetech in the title if you need some background.

Back to rx 550 for now, woot better not drop us on rtx 3060 pricing.

Sold my 5700xt for quite a bit

Evetech want 15k for 3060.

Takealot had some 5TB 2.5" HDDs on the fire sale so I picked one up and cracked it open. It's Seagate so it's a normal SATA drive with a tiny SATA to USB adapter. Currently I am cloning my old 5TB to the new one and these newer 2.5" drives are pretty fast. Never had one write at more than 100mb/s but this one is chugging a long nicely.

It's actually on SATA now but because I first connected it as is in USB form and then hot plugged it to SATA Windows thinks it is USB.

RAM timings are not my strong point, I am trying 3600Mhz at CL18 again on a newer BIOS and it seems stable.

If I run into issue and lower it back to 3200Mhz at CL16, what would be optimal settings for tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRC etc?

Nice!

I hope it does all you want from it - much like my 4750G Pro APU does for me.

Honestly, everyday since getting this marvel of technology I have enjoyed both the CPU and GPU abilities it has.

Somehow I think being an APU fanboi made me believe it is the only way we cure the world from miners and nvidia.

Having everything integrated into one package looks as though it might end up being the way things go, if you look for example at Apple's M1.

It'll make pc-building a bit more boring though.

The fun part is when you integrate it all into tiny ITX cases.

Added advantage is that it is of little interest to miners.
The problem that I'm seeing with these tiny ITX cases though, including that Inwin that you've got, is if you do need an expansion card of some sort (say pcie-SATA, pcie-m.2, or extra networking) - then you're stuck, unless you have some real skill with a pcie extension cable, a dremel and some prestik!

"dremel and some prestik!" - I think we have watched too much Linus.

I did actually run a PCI-E to M.2 adapter in the Inwin and it worked nicely. Currently it is in my new rig also working fine, I keep my work VM on the drive since Hyper-V allows you to boot up a drive if you take it offline in the host OS.

I'm seeing great things in the reviews, but that price is beyond me. My 1060 still chucks along OK for now.
I only watched the one so far, and it seems OK.
Around 2060 Super - 1080Ti performance depending on the game?

These days just getting any new card is an accomplishment though.

Hi guys.

Need some direction please.
I have around R10K to spend on a home/work Laptop. We will not be doing any gaming on it, mostly using Office but will need to open numerous pages over 2 monitors. So a huge HDD/SSD is not critical. Would prefer SSD for obvious reasons so 500gig should be plenty. Looking for 15.5", full keyboard, Full HD monitor, not the 720 HD nonsense.

Don't want to buy from Incredible Corruption and buying off Takeallot, well who knows what your going to get and so the list goes on.

Thanking you in advance.
