Is the i3-3220 to Ryzen 3 3200g upgrade worth for gaming? This deal on Evetech seems enticing. Are they reliable?

A friend recently bought a Ryzen bundle from Evetech and apparently, the CPU came with a bent pin out the box.
On a scale of 1 (farked) to 10 (super farked), how much trouble is he in for?

I would not advise a 4c/4t cpu for gaming in 2021, secondly it's a single stick of slow ram so no dual-channel operation.

"How do we know he didn't bend it?"

That kind of farked.

I haven’t bought much on Evetech but I don’t like the hate they get from this community. One bad service and everyone kinda hates them due to someone’s personal experience.

We all have bad experiences everywhere we go. It looks like there is someone who just want to see Evetech dead. Someone with personal agenda.

Not at all.. this is not one single person.. there are a multitude of people on this forum, and elsewhere, who have had bad experiences on multiple occasions.. there is a long running thread, with all the details from all parties affected..

Had 2 warranty claims.

First one they flat out refused to help me but luckily I managed to get sorted by another agent.

Second one was a glorious mouse so I had to go back to them. Return-to-base warranty means I pay shipping to them. Fair enough, I ship it up to them. 3 weeks later I get a email saying warranty claim processed new mouse will be issued. I thought great and gave them my delivery address. Another week goes by and I have heard or seen nothing. Give them a call only to find out that they must give me a quote so I can pay for shipping...

I don't know but that rubbed me the wrong way. I deal with local shops now alternatively wootware or the like.

One. The same way only one person has had a bad experience with the Home Affairs.

The hate is deserved. @Toxxyc & co over on Carbonite tried their best to get them onboard in the forum wrt customer relations & sorting the bad service out but reality eventually sank in and they gave up and it got to the point where they had to cut all ties and ban them.

So no, it's not a case of one bad incident here & there with a few salty people. By all means, use them and recommend them to your friends and colleagues...

So, let's put this into perspective:

1. Evetech started their success by grey importing graphics cards, specifically MSI cards. They sold their cards to clients who didn't know this, and I personally know of people who's cards broke within a year and they refused to help them, as their own warranty was only covered up to 6 months, hidden in the fine print. So the MSI 2-year warranty was misleading.
2. I then didn't support them for a long time, because of this. They then got their **** sorted apparently and eventually a guy I worked with had an MSI card pack up. Bought at Evetech, but in a ready-built system. Card was 14 months old and let out magic smoke. Contacted Evetech and another loophole - their ready built systems only carried a 12-month warranty, so he was **** out of luck, even though the card carried the remainder of the local warranty. I then went over Evetech's heads and took the card to Pinnacle personally, where it was swapped out with a new one for the guy.
3. Some time passed again and I decided to support Evetech with something that wouldn't be warranty-issue-like - a case, an NZXT S340. Loved the case, then moved houses and something fell over against it, badly scratching the perspex side panel. I contacted Evetech and asked them if they sold spares. They don't. I asked them if they would import one for me, and I'll gladly pay, and they refused. So I went to NZXT myself, and 9 days later a brand new panel arrived at my door - I didn't even pay for shipping. Evetech was just too shitty to help.

4. Some time passed again and I was made an Administrator on Carbonite. I decided we needed some exposure and decided to approach Evetech, as they launched a local gaming thing back then. I made contact with their marketing guy (won't mention his name here, but he's no longer there, great dude) and we worked together on the Carb/Evetech thing for a bit. I told Evetech about all their issues, we had a meeting with the owner and everything, and had a bunch of agreements in place.

Evetech would send stuff to us for testing, so we could boost our YouTube channel. The products were then raffled and placed in giveaways with Evetech being marketed in the process. We gave them a premium section on the forum where they could address issues regarding orders from our 40k+ members on Carbonite. They promised to work on their support as well as their outrageous shipping fees in some cases (like a TKL keyboard costing R280 to ship to Cape Town). We also asked them to look into their warranty things and they promised to work on that.

So for a while everything went smoothly. We got our stuff, they sorted out their issues (mostly due to the marketing guy who juggled a ton of stuff over there) and we even converted some Evetech haters.

And then the marketing guy left. He got a better offer elsewhere and he didn't have to deal with the hate coming to him from all sides anymore. And then **** went sideways. For months we got nothing from them (even after I begged for new stuff, followed up, getting promises, etc. etc.). Then they pulled their old stuff again (screwing people on returns), and we cut the cord. Evetech is no longer welcome on Carbonite, and won't be for as long as they keep their **** up.

So no, it's not just due to someone's personal experience. It's their whole essence. I think you probably missed that article where an insider revealed how they were taught to avoid honoring warranties at all costs? Yes, they're THAT low.

Thank you for putting such a detailed article. After reading this I think I will also try and stay away from them. I have bought few items from them and really never thought about the returning issues.

I have purchased the Razor Large mouse pad from them and yeah, chances of returning a mouse pad are very slim and then I bought a Coolermaster PSU which comes with 5 years warranty. I never really thought it would be an issue claiming the warranty with them. But after reading this, I just pray that nothing happens on that PSU.

I will try stay away from them. Thanks for the information. Much appreciated.

What did you order?

You used Dawn Wing?

Basically everything for my first build.

Ryzen 5 3600
EVGA 1660 Super
SuperFlower 650w PSU
512gb nvme SSD
2x8 gb 3200mhz RAM
B550 MSI mortar motherboard
Q300L M-atx case
MSI CPU cooler
some 120mm fans
thermal paste
keyboard + mouse + headset gaming bundle
Dell 27" gaming monitor

Yup, I used Dawn Wing.

EDIT: I did end up buying a chair from Evetech - they have the best chair selection unfortunately.

I can’t wait to see the complete build. If you have resources or time please make a video of the whole building process and also post some pictures.

Don’t forget to add thermal paste on the CPU and also remove that CPU cooler plastic, lol
