You will be able to play some things, but not recent games. Don't worry, keep building your PC. You can always upgrade the GPU later.

My previous PC is still running an i5 2500. Was using it till last year when I thought the mobo finally died, and got a Ryzen replacement. Later it started working again. Still works fine for games as long as you have a decent GPU. Last one I had on was a RX570. The i5 is now still running my Plex server and home assistant etc with on-board graphics.
I’ll have to wait until I have the money to get a solid GPU … for now I’ll use what I have … it’s parts I got from people I no … that’s helping me build a pc …
I just asked because most of my friends plays online or something so I’m sucked with playing mame lol … but I’m patient

My brother still plays the latest games on a 3rd gen i5, which isn't much better than the i5 2500. It should be fine for 60fps gaming in most titles.

Guess I’ll just have to use this GT710 … I don’t have much of an choice…

You have to put out some money to get a decent gaming GPU. If you are down bad, then you'll be forced to go earlier generation or lower end up a new gen.
Few years ago you could grab a second hand 1060 3gb for R1200, now the best I can find is a 1030.
A 1030 could do Counterstrike and DOTA2 @ 60fps at least. A 1050 would be better, but it's hard finding a bargain on GPUs these days.

Played a game tonight for the first time in a couple months (it's quite warm at the moment compared to the last couple weeks). One of the fans on the GPU starts making a grinding noise...lovely 
Took it apart and did some optimistic cleaning - no dice. It's quiet with the fan speed below ~600rpm but any higher and the grinding starts up (bearing's probably going after 5 years). Going to have to investigate fan replacement kits but I don't know of anywhere local that sells them and shipping a $10 item internationally is kinda dumb.
Looking forward to Frankensteining a case fan onto it

I paid $43 shipping on a $35 pack of 3 fans on Aliexpress when I only needed one replacement.
It was worth it though.

3 pin male connector is a problem - I'm guessing that means the fan runs full-speed all the time. Or the Geewiz site is wrong.
I can adjust the mounting points probably (my 1070 has 4 screw holes in a rectangle 40mmx20mm for each fan while the Geewiz ones look like 3 holes in a triangle) if the 3 pin bit turns out to be wrong.
