I had a Logitech keyboard that used to do that for me when I was young and impressionable.

Modern hardware doesn't require that kind of thing anymore. They won't let you melt them.

Around 20 grand-ish if you already have the monitor and peripherals (mouse, kb, headset).

Intel 12400f or 12400 + B660 motherboard + 32Gb DDR4 - around 10k
XFX Radeon 6600 XT - R7 500
650W PSU - R1 500
500Gb SSD - R1 000
Case - R1 000

Should be good for 60fps @1440p for most everything except Cyberpunk 2077, MS Flight Simulator.
Alright, how much extra would it be if I need to get a screen as well and a new version of Windows? (Already have a keyboard, mouse, and a decent headset, so that's taken care of).

I see windows 7 keys still can upgrade / used for windows 10/11 and you know you really don't want to buy new when you go looting in your garage for old laptops with legit unused stickers. Lol.

bit the bullet and placed an order for a "Zotac GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Gaming Trinity OC Edition" (obviously next week the price is going to drop by another R1K  )

so going from a RX480 4GB to a 3070 Ti should be quite nice :p
Typical. Go to quickly install the card only to find out that I need to move my AIO radiator to be top mount exhaust.

5 minutes to now become 1 hour

Believe it or not, it's pretty difficult to find a 60Hz 1440p monitor. There's this LG IPS and a Dell IPS at Wootware that fit the bill (both under 6k) - check out reviews to see which makes sense. I'd prefer the 27" at that resolution but maybe (probably) your eyes are better.

For more options, you might have to look at stuff aimed at office use - the gamer market has moved to high refresh rate by and large.

A Windows licence is cheap - check on Carbonite or with @Flashgear here (couple hundred bucks).

Why not just get a 4K 27", 4K works so well at the size, it's definitely the sweet spot.

And I’m up and running.

Moved rad to top but kept it as intake.

Card is freaking and made it extremely difficult to install the front fan. The card and the fan are actually touching. Possibly going to see if there is a thinner fan available, so that I can mount it more on the fan side of the GPU

Nah allow it. Will help with GPU sag and keep it cool at the same time.

Personally, 4k at 27" looks too small at about 60cm away. I prefer to sit at a reasonable distance and not use scaling - OP might not have the same issue though.

What's wrong with scaling, you get the best of both worlds, you have the fine grain of 4K res so everything looks crisp af but you don't have to squint.

I'm on windows and the scaling works flawlessly, I probably also increased the default font size but whatever I did I'm pretty particular about things looking good and it looks amazing, I couldn't say that using scaling was even a compromise, it just works.

I sit about 60cm away from my 27" 4K screen, and it works great at 100%. It is on the edge though, so it might be ever so slightly too small if you go 5cm back.

As for scaling, I run my 4K 15" laptop at 175% scaling, so not even a nice round 200% or 150%, and it works perfectly. The only slight annoyance is moving windows between a 100% and 175% display, there is a point where it "jumps" to the new size. It's really a non issue.

On the 4K 175% screen everything looks noticeably better than on my 27" 1440p 100% monitor.

Have you tried to run a variety of demanding games yet? Just to see if it draws more power than your PSU can deliver? ;)

Once you move up to 4K it's back to 60hz - but there is no way I am giving up all this desktop real estate. It's seeing like you have never seen before.
