Noice, I have the dual-tower version of that one. Very lekker.
I was thinking of getting the dual one as well, but didn't want to clutter the inside of my PC too much. I have a small case. So far it's been running well and my CPU runs cool so very happy with it. Great coolers for sure!

Yea it is a bit chunky, but I wanted the extra cooling capacity for my CPU, wasn’t too sure what to expect with it in terms of heat.

Perhaps some added clarity, CPU cooler is essentially decided - Deepcool AK620 or Thermalright Peerless Assassin (terrible name imo but apparently a good performer). Would have been a Noctua NH-D15 but that is outperformed by the former options and I'm not waiting until the end of the year for the updated version of the Noctua. So it's just the case that matters for now.

Specs are:
AMD 5800X
Storage is M2 SSDs only
GTX970 for now (somehow still working at an acceptable for me), will be upgraded to something like RX 6800 / GTX 3070 (looking for something in the €500 range). Most likely that'll happen if/when I jump into Diablo 4 or Dyson Sphere gets its official release.
edit: is 330mm a deal breaker for this level of GPU/ That's the limit of the Torrent compact and I'm feeling weird about going from a 38L case to a 70L of the full size Torrent

Literally just replaced my 970 with a 6950xt. What a jump.

Peerless Assassin is the best performer currently, after the NH-D15 but the price is insane for that, so go for the Assassin.

330mm should cover most cards at that level. They seem to be in the 240-270 region. Keep in mind you need space for front fans as well - not sure of the layout of there Torrent compact but I'd imagine it would be okay.

On the topic of GPUs, AMD should be releasing some new ones shortly, so maybe wait for that and see what they're offering and pricing. I had a 1070 which I was happy with for the most part. Then I got a 3070 and suddenly realized what I was missing. An upgrade will massively improve your experience, especially if you have a high-refresh rate monitor.

I'm using the Deep Cool AK620 and it works really well and it's not particularly noisy. Will depend on your choice of CPU of course - what are you running?
As for cases, the Fractal Torrent is a great choice. The Phanteks P500A would be a good choice too.
I'm actually struggling to find the P500A., seems it was replaced by the G500A? What would the selling point be over the alternatives? And does it need any extra fans, I'd imagine not for an air cooled setup.

Hmmm maybe they’ve changed the name or something. I’ll have a look for you later, can’t at the moment.

So what suggestions have you all? Ultimately I want a quiet solution. I do accept that air wont be as quiet as a custom water loop, but its still important.

Maybe look at quiet fans for your heatsink and case. You get different blade designs, lower rpm, pressure etc that mitigate noise.

Seems I'll go for the AG620 CPU cooler (AK620 minus the plastic top), can be here tomorrow where the Thermalright PA120 or PS120 will be a week. And I don't want the SE versions since the fans are not as great on them and miss the rubbers on the corners for vibration dampening.

I really wanna nab a set of matching cases for me & the boyfriend.

But I see yeesterday Wootware put a whole load of Montech cases on their site, similar offerings but half the price.

Anyone running these Montech cases?
How's the build quality?
Looking at the rear pics, it's using those 'cheap' thumbscrews and I'd imagine the metalwork is a lot thinner than desirable. Probably going to take the Fractal Design chassis otherwise.

Gamers Nexus did a review on them, check it out. I forget the outcome offhand but I trust their reviews.

Nothing wrong with them but they're not going to be the same quality as Fractal.

Bit the bullet and ordered the full size Torrent. Rather have a big case with empty space than a small one and try cram everything in and sit with that hassle every time I want to make a change or upgrade. Which is pretty much the biggest gripe I have from the small-ish case I have now. It's all good and fun looking at it when it is done but heaven forbid you need to change something! Got the one with the solid sides, I've also passed that phase of my life where I stare lovingly into a PC :p Now it must just work without question.

The torrent is a great looking case

White or black?

The new case ended up not feeling much bigger than the old one, so all is well on that front. The Fractal Torrent feels like really good quality, there is a decent amount of plastic but overall it still gives that solid feeling, and the panels simply popping off is cool. At first I tried to slide them off like I'm used to and was like what crap is this, but then figured it out and was like ah, cool.
At idle it is also quieter than the custom loop I was running. I've got the case and CPU fans set to 30% and 50% at idle, and 50% and 100% if CPU temp goes above 80°C (for me thats 15°C below Tmax). GPU I had an issue and was hitting thermal limits (I think 10 year old thermal paste is not the best thing to use), but I've now applied the new paste from the CPU cooler and temps are waaaay down. So I've got a similar fan profile setup with emphasis on quiet and then oh **** it's hot turn all fans to 11!! But so far under mild gaming loads it's been all silence. With low enough ambient temperatures (seems like 15-20 in my office now) running Furmark + Prime 95 it's still in the silent mode.

Looks great! More adult looking case than the old one
