The PC Build Thread

If enough of us stick to AM4 then AMD will at some stage throw us a bone. I just want some RDNA APU goodness.

As for SSDs, a lot of people said Muskin was crap yet I have been using a Pilot-E as my main drive for almost 4 years now, no issues.
Yeah my pilot e is still going

Hi,
Is this PC ok for a total rebuild and the parts ok?

Looks like a great build, except that you are cheaping out on the SSD. If that was my build and 2tb ssd was not essential, I'd rather go for a good 1tb ssd. I recently replaced my Samsung 870 Evo Plus with one of these (It was going for R2.5k two weeks ago). There is a marked difference in response times!

If you really have money to throw at the build, then a good PCIe 5 SSD would be even faster...

PCI-E 5.0 SSD would be a waste of money, there is no use case where that is beneficial.

What sort of work do you do? Do you need as many cores as that? Overall it's a decent build.

I would upgrade that PSU to something more like an 850W or 1000W platinum. You don't need the extra wattage really, but if you want it to last 10 years, buy something better now. I would also get a PCI-e 4.0SSD and a 360mm AIO. Keep in mind that the AIO will dehydrate at some point and need to be replaced. An air cooler may be a better option, though I'm not sure which ones can handle a 7950X so you will need to do some research.

As for the GPU - that's a solid GPU and works great now. It will not be sufficient in 10 years time. For perspective, the GTX 980 was the top GPU 10 years ago and while it's passable for 1080p gaming, it is not by any means a high performance GPU these days.

Not sure what your budget is, but unless you really need it, you could save a ton by getting less storage now and upgrade to a 4080 maybe. The performance difference is stark.

Let me read some reviews on it but thank you for the advice.

Budget is R70k and I am just underneath it now took some of your advice and updated my build. I do not need that many cores but rather have them for just in case I do if for example I do password cracking.

Anybody got some experience with the 4060ti 8gb? I am thinking of upgrading my 3060 to a 4x series card to try and make use of dlss 3 etc. Also trying to get achieve 60fps for most games on 1440p without having to dip into the settings too much. 4070 just a little out of my budget atm.

Good build. Let me have a look quickly and see what I can do.

@Progenix Oj101 maybe add your input here.

Rather get a 3070/3080 secondhand. The 4060 is a 3060. 4060Ti is better but not worth the cash. I ran a 3070 at 1440p, ran everything beautifully and DLSS is there if you need it.

Some good deals on 3080s going around on Carb, but I have never had that kind of size gpu before. Need to probably check case size, cooling? And psu..

@ActivateD

This gets you there at R60k. There are times spending the extra for a name is worth it, but there are also places you can save.

What screen do you have? No point having a baller PC if you're running a 1080p 60Hz screen. Same goes for sound - a decent set of headphones will change your life - or at least your gaming experience.

Thank you this looks amazing and way cheaper as well I owe you one..

My 3070ti still handles things nicely, only issue is power draw where the 4060ti sips it
