[...] My personal viewpoint is what is the bare minimum I require from a MB, the MB does not add to the performance of a system (unless overclocking) so I will spend as little on it as possible & push any savings to more important components like the gpu & cpu. [...]

+1

That's my rule of thumb as well. I first select a CPU in the top 10% and then find a minimalistic mobo.

(But then I'm not much of an overclocker, only using generic standard overclock profiles in the BIOS or via XMP.)

So I just broke my SSD housing off into the Sata cable :crying:.

I am obviously thinking of getting a new one but which one?
I am thinking of going for an M.2 drive this time around but it is farking expensive.

I need a 120Gb drive only and I am willing to spend R 1400 at max, otherwise I will have to go with a Samsung Evo 850 120Gb.

Before I purchase, does anyone know of anything better that is getting released soon?
Also, can my SSD be fixed? I have a Kingston

Ok I made my mind up.

I am going with another SATA SSD instead of an m.2 SSD.
There will be no benefit in installing Windows on the m.2 SSD as compared to a SATA SSD.

I'm scared that if I open my case and unplug the ssd and a pin breaks off then I'm royally f###ed.

Ok when you get the replacement then. I enjoy a challenge & have a stable soldering hand :D

When you remove it remove it with the cables attached & then have a good look and remove them gently ;)

Will do.

I still can't make my mind up though, go with m.2 or either a Samsung Evo or Samsung Pro drive.

Do you have the model details & prices?

I would look at performance vs price. Pick the fastest one if not that more expensive.

I would be happy with the EVO to be honest as I mostly read from a drive and not write. Only time I write is when installing games, doubt saving a word doc etc you will notice any difference between the two :D

Which m.2 did you have in mind?

I was thinking the same you know. It's not like I will be copying to and from this drive all the time so all these other bells and whistles is really not needed for my needs.

I was looking for an m.2 with NVMe but it's ridiculously expensive like this for example.

I would go for the EVO and spend the savings on a good night out with friends :D

Will use it for that and other general loungey things...mostly just wanted to build a mini-itx machine in a tiny case.
