Yeah, doubt the entire system under full load will need more than 320W. There are better PSUs though budget permitting.

Schweet. Had a rubbish, Huntkey psu. Think I'll spend some cash and get a decent one.

No.

What do you need, what is your budget?

According to newegg i need a 300w psu but i doubt that, my system: GT 520, 4gb ram, 2 7200rpm hdd's, 2 optical drives (dvd) & nforce 780i board, i was told 650w-750w but aint that a overkill? Also it takes an 8 & 24pin connectors. Budget preferably 1K

So I just broke my SSD housing off into the Sata cable :crying:.

I am obviously thinking of getting a new one but which one?
I am thinking of going for an M.2 drive this time around but it is farking expensive.

I need a 120Gb drive only and I am willing to spend R 1400 at max, otherwise I will have to go with a Samsung Evo 850 120Gb.

Before I purchase, does anyone know of anything better that is getting released soon?
Also, can my SSD be fixed? I have a Kingston

You re gonna have to post some closeup pics so we can determine the damage.

Htf did you manage this btw?
Will do tomorrow. I was a bit rough but I hate these Damn SATA cables with the lock.

Advice

Hi Guys,

I need a new mobo as mine is around 4 years old and I don't think it supports the LGA 1150..
I was thinking along the line of http://www.wootware.co.za/msi-h81-p...-express-lga1150-atx-desktop-motherboard.html ? - If somebody could recommend something between say R700 - R1250 preferably with 4 Ram slots as I have 2x4gb 1600mhz ram at the moment and would like to avoid having to re-purchase ram again :p (Though I may just have to if push comes to shove here )

Which of the following two cases would one recommend as well please: http://www.takealot.com/cooler-maste...u/PLID29401873 or http://www.takealot.com/raidmax-vort...k/PLID32564375 ? If there is perhaps a better recommendation elsewhere, please advise.

One last thing, my PC is going to look something like this:
CPU: I7-4790 (non K)
Mobo: Still deciding
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 380 series 4gb 256bit
PSU: Corsair 500w (looking for something newer as this one is 4 years old, was thinking http://www.wootware.co.za/super-flow...er-supply.html or http://www.wootware.co.za/corsair-cp...er-supply.html ?
2x4GB 1600mhz Vengeance Ram

Thanks!

M.2 is interesting not just because it can speed up storage with PCI Express lanes, but because it can use a whole bunch of different buses too; it stands to replace both mSATA and mini PCI Express, two older standards that have been used for SSDs and Wi-Fi cards in laptops for a while now. Intel's new Broadwell CPUs and their chipsets include native support for M.2 and PCI Express boot drivers—neither PCIe-connected storage (hi Apple) nor the M.2 connector itself are new, but beginning with Broadwell systems each of those two things will become much more common.

I have a Haswell cpu in a Maximus Impact 7. Does the above mean that I have to download software so that I can actually see the m.2 drive?

i currently have a 450w antec but its a 4 pin and a 20 pin, the board requires a 8 and 24 pin + why im querying about this is due to the psu making a bit of a noise, also it completely shutted down a few times, i think it might be the fan? also when i boot it its fine for a moment and then the noise starts, im sure that its the psu as i kept a close ear to the back of the case, it also did something else, but only one time, when i booted it it only gave running code at the bottom of the screen nothing else, so i dont know whats actually the problem, its been powered down for more than a month now as i dont want the system to get completely busted, i have tons of photoshop work and 3D work on it as well as some of my study material.

I'm not aware of any H81 boards supporting 4 dimm slots, you would have to look at some B85 or H97 boards.
You can get this for R1266 http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-b85m...50-haswell-micro-atx-desktop-motherboard.html might find it cheaper elsewhere if you shop around. Just check if it comes with a new enough bios to support your cpu.

Just get a super flower psu.

Case is a personal thing, see if it suites all your needs, how many and what size fans it has, drive bays etc. Have a look at the corsair carbide 200r as well (edit: ignore the 200r I see it went up in price a lot).

The SF has 4+4pin so you can use it on a 4 or 8 pin mb.

You will have to isolate what the problem is with your system, maybe start a new thread in the hardware section.

Hi Ponder,

Thanks for the response!

Which of the two mboards which I picked would you personally prefer? I don't mind buying 2x8gb if I have to if the MSI board is going to be the all round better purchase?

I also found some more on wootware:
http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-m5a78l-m-usb3-am3-am3-integrated-micro-atx-amd-desktop-motherboard.html
http://www.wootware.co.za/asrock-fatal1ty-970-performance-amd-am3-sata-6gb-s-usb3-0-atx-desktop-motherboard.html
http://www.wootware.co.za/gigabyte-ga-p85-d3-intel-b85-lga1150-atx-haswell-desktop-motherboard.html
http://www.wootware.co.za/asrock-h97-anniversary-lga1150-intel-h97-hdmi-sata-6gb-s-usb3-0-atx-intel-motherboard.html
Can you perhaps advise on any of the above? I am trying not to spend too much on the entire rig, but I would be willing to spend a bit more on a mboard to get something better :)

Why are you mixing intel & amd boards there?

http://www.wootware.co.za/gigabyte-ga-p85-d3-intel-b85-lga1150-atx-haswell-desktop-motherboard.html
http://www.wootware.co.za/asrock-h9...-sata-6gb-s-usb3-0-atx-intel-motherboard.html
http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-b85m...50-haswell-micro-atx-desktop-motherboard.html

All of the above boards will get the job done, you however have to pick what features you require. The H97 for example has 6x6Gb/s ports while the B85 has 4x6Gb/s + 2x3Gb/s so unless you are running 6 SSDs there is really no need for that as a normal HDD will never reach those speeds.

My personal viewpoint is what is the bare minimum I require from a MB, the MB does not add to the performance of a system (unless overclocking) so I will spend as little on it as possible & push any savings to more important components like the gpu & cpu. Other people differ in their approach I go for more features. I've purchased a bloody expensive MB once before in my life & never used all it offered so to me it was a waste, I now stick with entry level boards.

I would keep the ram you have, all the boards listed above are fine, to buy new ram will cost more anyway than buying a slightly more expensive MB wont it? Unless you can flog the ram, get new ram with a full warranty and still come out no worse financially.
