You will get more for your money if you build it yourself.

I don't think so as the E8400's thermal limit is below that. Remove, the heatsink/fan, clean off all old thermal paste and apply new paste, ensure heatsink/fan is properly seated.

On my way out but look at the build above your first post, #1485. I assume you already have hdd's and don't need new ones but would like a ssd of say 250GB? Might have to go slightly over your R10k budget. SSD is ~ R1.5k for 250GB, chassis you can pick up for ~R500-R700.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm considering my options. I looked though some of the pre-built stuff at wootware, but does anyone have any links to other sites that do good pre-built/built-to-order boxes?

Hi guys need some help with a build for a buddy. Budget of around 12K

What he already has:
Gaming Ram @ 1866
Case: CM Scout
Storage: internal 1.5TB
Display: 21.5" 2ms Sammy (looking to replace though)

Mainly used for gaming. He's currently running an AMD APU setup, but looking to go over to Intel and Nvidia this time around.

What PSU does he have, make/model/wattage?
Is a display to be included in that R12k budget?
Does he need more than 4xsata ports?

Corsair VS450.
No, but if money left over from budget, that money will go towards a new monitor, not essential now though.
Yes, looking to expand storage capacity later on, also using DVD ROM.

Does he live in a cave? :D

Was hoping we could reuse his PSU but does not look like it.
4+ sata ports pushes the MB price up a bit.
Would he like a 256GB SSD by any chance? Will see how it fits into the budget.

Lol some guys just love to have a physical gaming collection instead of a digital library, me included :).

Showed him this thread and he said let's stretch the budget as far as it can go, for decent parts. So SSD is a yes. Will also want to do some overclocking, but if it means spending more on the GPU a non-K CPU will do.

Ok so the budget is still R12k or is it more now?

Let's see what we can put together for R12K. He confirmed that he can spend R1K more, but would prefer not to if its not going to improve performance much.

Option 1:

R1484 - MSI H97M-G43 Intel Motherboard
R1850 - Intel® Core™ i5-4590 Processors (6M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz)
R228 - Coolermaster Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler
R5599 - Galax 97NQH6DNB4TX GeForce GTX 970 EXOC Black Edition 4096MB GDDR5 256-bit PCI-Express 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card
R849 - Super Flower SF-500P14XE(HX) Golden Green HX 500W 80 Plus Gold Certified Desktop Power Supply
R10010

Option 2:

R1484 - MSI H97M-G43 Intel Motherboard
R1850 - Intel® Core™ i5-4590 Processors (6M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz)
R228 - Coolermaster Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler
R5299 - PowerColor PCS+ AXR9 390 8GBD5-PPDHE Radeon R9 390 8GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card
R1599 - Super Flower SF-750F14MG Leadex 750W 80 Plus Gold Certified Fully Modular Desktop Power Supply
R10460

No SSD spec'd, the MB supports M.2 but some people prefer a standard sata interface for portability between systems. The M.2 SSDs start around R1.8k for 256GB while you can pick up a normal one for ~R1400. So he'll have to decide which route he wants to go and use what's left in the budget for that one item.

There's a Samsung 850 going for R1.5k on carbonite at the moment.

Looked at a Gigabyte MB but it was over R1.8k and did not even have all the features of the MSI.

Thanks Ponds.

For some strange reason I can't read your entire post (Tapatalk). That mobo price though. Are you referring to a H97M or the H81 as per the link?

Forgot to mention he does have a cooler, so that's R250 saved.

On the GPU I can't see the reason then for going with the more expensive 970. Is the 390 more power hungry hence the 750w? Won't the 500w do?

Ja he'll have to shop around for the SSD then. I think he'll go for the 390, more money then for the SSD.

MSI H97M-G43 Intel Motherboard (I'll fixed the links, looks like my copy&paste skills are letting me down)

R9 390 has a 275W TDP, with OC it will be more, the manufacturers all list 750W as the PSU requirement. I reckon you could probably get away with a 600W but leaves you with veryy little wiggle room. There's a cheaper semi-modular version but it's out of stock & wootware can't tell me when the new stock will be arriving, the 600W version is also out of stock.

Cool thanks. Btw he's pretty chuffed with the build suggestion though. I told him to keep eyes on carbonite for leke deals on a mobo/CPU bundle as he wants a more flashy mobo...kids .
