Updates to incorporate Ivy Bridge into the thread will be done over tonight and hopefully into midday tomorrow.

Thanks Duff, our pricing is for this week only(w18, subject to stock availability). Pre-orders from the weekend and tomorrow will receive first priority at the current pricing.

Have a good evening everyone:)

Great article and reference.

I got a Z68 Fatal1ty gaming motherboard by ASRock, and it is stunning with a Intel 2600K with a slight overclock.

That might be a mobo you might want to add to a gaming configuration.

Hi everyone i need some help. I'm looking to build a i3 pc for about R4500-R5000 . Mostly for watching downloaded movies/series(maybe HD). But i also dont want something without any grunt or power incase i do game on it. Please help me out with your suggestion. I know theres a i3 rig on page 1 of this thread. Do those prices still apply now?

Another quick one. What would be a good GPU to add to that MSI Z77A-G43 board? I see it supports Crossfire, and although it's not really a requirement for me at the moment, I know it's just a matter of time before I decide to go all out.

Is it possible to run nVidia cards in SLI on Xfire certified boards? Or will I need to choose either a different board or different GPU?

Was thinking of starting off with a GTX560 and later adding an additional one

EDIT:
Perhaps a better option will be a GIGABYTE Z77X-UD3H??

Most likely the Z77 Fatal1ty gaming motherboard from ASRock would be added to the gaming configurations.

The MSI Z77A-G43 won't support SLI. If you want to run SLI the better option would be to go for the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 @R1613.

The ASRock Z77 Extreme4 has 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, compared to the UD3H's 1 PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, allowing for better SLI/Crossfire support and most reviews show that the ASRock Z77 Extrem4 is one of the best motherboards in terms of build quality, performance and value.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the sentiment seems to be, to me at least, that the ASRock boards simply don't last very long?

Thanks!

So, after some revision, this is what I have in mind to start off with:

Chassis : Cooler Master Elite 310 ATX
PS: Corsair TX650
MB: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
CPU: Intel i7 2600K + Cooler Master V6
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600mhz (to become 16GB at some point)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 2TB / Seagate Bara 2TB
GPU: GTX560 (to become 2 x GTX560 at some point)

Thoughts/Suggestions?

I know that was one of their problems in the past, but after their H61,P67 and Z68 motherboards rolled out their build quality has improved greatly, putting them on par with Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS.

For your CPU cooler, if you are going the air cooled route, why not get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 and configure to work in push/pull configuration, its about half the price of a V6 and offers great cooling performance and value for money.

Instead of getting an i3, I would rather recommend an A8-3850 APU build

Here's my quote

CPU : A8-3850 @R1180
Motherboard : ASUS F1A75-V EVO @R1200
GPU : Spahhire Radeon 6670 @R766 (Running in Hybrid Crossfire)
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 1TB @R660
RAM : Kingston HyperX Blue 4GB 1600Mhz (2GB x 2) @R245
Power Supply : Corsair CX500 @R640
Case : Gigabyte X2 @R275
Optical Drive : Asus DVD-RW 24X @R150

Total = R5116

Looks good. With a slightly lower mobo and CX430 PSU, OP could perhaps stretch budget to get a HD6770 graphics card. I think this would suit OP better as it will more than likely meet expectations should the need arise.

On the other hand, if unused, bit of a waste spending R1.2k on a glorified VGA output to telly.

Case is still too small hey. Are you particularly wanting to skimp on it? :D I really recommend you push budget to CM Silencio 550 if possible http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/387231-Cooler-Master-Silencio-550-case-chassis-pics.

+- R825 Coolermaster RC-550-KKN1 , Silencio 550 , no psu ( bottom placed design ) , black : with sound proofing side panels , front door with piano-black mirror finish + dust filter ; 1x SD card reader + 1x front usb3.0 + 1x front usb + audio in/out - 2/3 x 5.25", 1/0 x 3.5" , 7x 3.5" hidden with removable HDD cage ( side accessed ) , 2x 2.5" ( converted from 1x 3.5" ) , 1x SATA X-dock hot-swap bay in front panel - 2x 120mm fan upto 3 - atx http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6702

I can't recommend this case enough.

Otherwise the cheapest CM case with decent "gaming" interior (= space, bottom PSU, cable management, additional fans etc.) is the UPS100 Balck/Red.

+-R575 Coolermaster RC-P100 / RC-P100K-RKN2 , Usp100 , black with Red mesh front panel , No psu ( bottom placed psu design ) : tools free for Pci+3.5"+5.25" ; 2 x front usb + audio in/out ( removable i/o module ) - 4 x 5.25", 1x 3.5" , 6x 3.5" hidden - side access - 1 x front 120mm red-led fan upto 4 - atx http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6650&category_id=19

LOL... I must admit, the case for me is somwhat of a "whatever" issue... couln't care less what case I have, but I'll check out the other ones :-)

Then you probably want something plain and less flashy. ;) Silencio 550! :p

Once you know about the differences between insides of cases priced low to high, you will probably see that it isn't a "what ever" issue. Unless you're not assembling the PC, of course. :D

If the OP could stretch the budget by around R400 then that would be the better option to go with, but like you said if not needed it would be money wasted.

Thought this pic was relevant. AMD A4-3400 Dual, Asus F1A75-M LE, Cooler Master Silencio 550, Corsair CX430.
