Hi everyone, currently planning to upgrade my PC, most likely during the next week.
My budget for the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and GPU is ~R15000, already have the other needed components.
Any Suggestions?

Only CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and GPU?

You can change a your CPU to an i5, if you're looking for a better GPU.
Also, If you'd like all your components to look the same, just look for similar components in the same price range.

Thanks, noticed that the GPU is currently sold out? Any idea when it will be in stock?

No idea, but there are a few places you can check. I know PhoenixTech also have them for great prices! Most of these new models are on pre-order. You can also go and check the PowerColor cards at Wootware, they are a lot cheaper. This GPU isn't the best one out there, I see the new R290X cards have just been listed, but that's at R9000. However, the R280X is a great card still.

What do you intend to do with the PC? Gaming, Video editing, graphic design?

Mostly Gaming, although some video editing may take place.

Hi guys so my motherboard has decided to die on me, seeing as 1156 boards are as scarce as hens teeth I believe it's time for an upgrade. So with a +-R4k budget coming from a i7 870 what would you recommend for a board and CPU? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I also have access to Pinacle if that helps.

You can get an i5 Haswell (not the K) and a H87 or Z87 for that.

You can go look for a 1156 mobo on Carbonite, some guys sell their old mobos. That i7 was pretty good, replacing the mobo and CPU won't see that much of a difference, although you'll have more features. I'll suggest buying a 1156 motherboard from Carbonite, and then save up about 5k, then get an i5-4670k and a decent motherboard.

I might be able to push the budget to R4.5k I see on wootware I would be able to get a 4670K and Z87 motherboard. Would the extra R500 for the motherboard make that much of a difference?

Go check on Rebeltech and Esquire as well. I usually find that Intel CPUs are cheaper at Esquire (just remember to add VAT). I got my CPU at Esquire, was about R200 cheaper than anywhere else. If 4.5k is your budget, I'm sure you can get a i5 4670K and a decent motherboard from Esquire.

Paying more for a mobo usually means you get more features (sometimes even better) with the board, e.g. more SATA ports, more PCIe slots, more USB3.0 ports, more IO ports in general.

Edit: Holy crap, I just posted the message and lost everything I typed! Calculated a lot options for you!

At Rebeltech there are a few options. But, saving up to R5k will give you the i5 and a MSI Z87 G45 gaming motherboard. Although there are more options, you can get a Z87 MSI or Gigabyte motherboard with the i5 4670k for under R4.5k

Im looking into building the following PC

MB - ASRock Z87 Extreme3 Z87 - R1700 - http://www.wootware.co.za/asrock-z8...mania&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=direct_link

CPU
- Intel Core i5-4570 Haswell Processor - R2233 - Esquire
Ram - G.Skill RipjawsX, 16GB (2x 8GB) kit, DDR3-2400 - R1947 - http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=11289
PSU - Thermaltake LitePower, 650w - http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=30&products_id=5675
Box - Zalman Z3, Midi Tower - http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29&products_id=10731

The graphics card i will get later, i have a HIS - Radeon 6970

Can i ask why you guys are all preferring the 2133 ram above the 2400?

Hi everyone.

Question, I am thinking of building a new pc as the one I have at the moment still runs on ddr2... struggles to play battlefield 3.

Thing is I need something for work and play... something that will be able to run battlefield 4 preferably.

Budget is around 12 K and I don't need hard drives... will probably salvage my hard drive out of my current computer.

I am a graphic designer / photographer, so work wise it would need to be able to run the adobe creative suite 5 or 6 (I am running it fine on my old system now so not too worried)

Current system:

Asus motherboard (unsure which)
4 gig ddr2 ram
2.6 quad core cpu
nvidia gefore 520gt (or something like that)
2 tb hard drive

Any suggestions here?

I would like to buy everything new including a case.

Had a look at the NAG magazine site and their system builders guide, the 13k system seems good.

See the system i just mentioned above.
works out at +- R7000, if your budget is 1200, that leaves you with R5000 for a GPU. you can pick up something very decent with that.

Thoughts on this HTPC Build please.

Intel H61 "Hortonville" LGA1155, VGA, GB Lan, M-ATX
Intel® G2030 Ivy Bridge 3.00 GHz 3Mb Cache 32nm
hd6540 from microserver
4gb ddr3 ram
M-ATX Small Form Factor Chassis with 300w PSU IN-BL672
Some 64GB SSD :)

I'll suggest getting a better PSU. Preferably one that is 80+ certified, don't worry too much about the maximum Wattage. Between 600 and 800 will be good.

I think the reason behind the 2133mhz RAM, is that it is easier to achieve those speeds with most motherboards. I never used 2400mhz RAM before, so won't be able to give feedback on experience with it.

Sounds good. You only intend to watch movies and series via your local network?

And does the H61 have Sata 3 ports (for the SSD to perform at optimal speeds)?

The 2 ports are sata 3. I currently use a n40l microserver as my htpc. It serves up media to the network like a dream but the xbmc interface is getting a bit clunky.

Perhaps what I should do first is to get a ssd for the microserver os and see if that improves xbmc's responsiveness, might be all I need.

Might yeah.

Just worried about the amount of space for your HTPC if you're only using a 64GB ssd.

Space shouldn't be an issue, the only thing that will be installed on the HTPC is XBMC (still undecided about what OS to use, Linux or Win8). The microserver will still host all the content.
