I don't see a problem in making a profit off the sale, loads of people do it so why not him?
The windows install however is leaving a door open to possible problems.
Not to say I havn't given my copy of windows to friends but that was different.
If your manager is underpaying you, then milk it! :p

So how big is too big a profit?

Just add a mark-up on every item.
If it's not enough then add more.
Compare it to a similar specced machine from a computer store and undercut them.

I undercut this guy by R1100, and still manage to make a R2500 profit (feeling a bit guilty cos R2500 is what i'll pay for this machine in all honesty:p)

But im after references so I am fine with that.

You undercut that guy by R1100, yes. But, rather try and undercut some companies like Matrix, IC, or Evetech. Which are more expensive than your normal online/physical retailer.

Just go with R8k or 8.5k with the 1TB.

Nothing wrong with your mark up.
Take into account he'd pay more for less from a pc store.
But as emiles says, undercut the guys that charge loads not someone that you know is actually cheap.

Hahaha, the price goes up by the hour. Like I said before, no way to make a living. But, you can score here and there.

I was recently stuck with the same choice. Hard to find deals that offer backup after sales on their products. I eventually bought from Bizcloud suppliers on wabamart.
Reference : http://wabamart.co.za/bizcloud

I do architecture, animations, web development and graphic design. So I needed a gaming spec pc. Boy can they get expensive !!!

Hope that helps.....

Got home last night.. pressed the power button on my pc.. and ... 'nothing happens".. no whirring of fans, or reading of harddisks.

PC is quite old though, so I was expecting this to happen sooner or later. Gonna replace the power supply and see if that fixes it, but if that doesn't work, I think it might be time to get myself a new rig.

where's the best place to buy components online? I was in the hardware game many moons ago, but I'm seriously out of touch now... any suggestions?

Wootware, Rebeltech, Techimport.

Could also be the motherboard.

Shot.. hope it's not the MB.. coz if i can get away with just replacing the power supply for now.. then I can at least save up some more cash and get a proper gaming rig.

ok.. seems like i'm a bit more out of touch than I thought.. getting really confused as to which components to take (brand-wise)

I would like to setup a decent gaming rig (budget of roughly 10k)
It will also serve as a media server, so I need a couple of big hard drives.

minimum i5 or similar amd cpu
appropriate motherboard
a 64 gig ssd is possible
2 x 2tb sata hd (or 3tb of possible)
an optimal amount of dd3 ram
a good graphics card (the r9 270x looks good)
standard chassis (nothing fancy)
a good power supply as I will be plugging in 3 external drives as well.
a cheap dvd writer

Would I be able to get all that within my budget, or am I crazy?

Howzit guys,

Just dipping my toes into the PC Build pool, been out of it for quite a while.
Looking a building a PC mainly for gaming, and also for running a media server, nutn crazy.
Went in to my local PC Shop and this guy gave me an basic build, BUT, he's thinking was as follows,
1. Get a top of the range i3, 4th Gen, 4330 i think
2. Gigabyte MOBO, think it was the H88
3. Peripherals as needed
4. GPU, this is where he said i must kill it, said i should get this Geforce card, was around 5k :wtf: but said i would never need to replace the card for a few years.

Im starting from scratch, so i need almost a full build, can someone give me some pointers?
Budget < 8k :o
