Just bought a 750w power supply for 999. That should last a long time..

Probably a 80+ white. 80+ gold is where its at.

When it comes to psu its not a question of bigger is better. You will only need a larger psu while running more than one gpu. Generally most psu have an optimum efficiency at around 40% power consumption. It also helps keep the fan in the lower rpm bracket. (Quieter is always better in my opinion) Go here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and see where you are sitting percent wise. Then choose your wattage of psu. Decide on a brand, and then check the data sheet for its optimum efficiency curve.

Anyways. Plugged in the new power supply and my PC is working again. So motherboard was not the issue.

Going to be getting PC soon for gaming though I won't be playing any high-end games, most intense game will probably be Bf3. So I was thinking of getting the i3-3240 with around 4gb of RAM in regards to the graphics card I am still deciding. I will buy one but I was hoping to save for a couple of months and getter a proper one to last me for some time. Might take a few months to get the graphics so in the meantime will the Intel® HD Graphics 2500 internal graphics be sufficient to maybe play Dota 2 or am I asking for too much?

I think it might just be fine on low detail. Google Dota 2 on HD 2500. There are some links that can tell you on what settings you'll have to play and if you'll be able to play at all.

Good to hear :)

750W is overkill as Electric mentioned, but for R999 it's not a bad price (not amazing as well). But, it will last you for 5 years at least

Yeah from what i calculated, to be safe a 600-700W should be more than ample.

I would initially just have one HDD, but eventually i want to add a SSD and maybe another HDD.

WRT the GPU, any reason why AMD and not GeForce etc? ive only ever had Geforce or similar so dont really have anything to go on..

I would prefer the GPU to be about 1K but i live in the real world, lower 2k would be perfect, but i would go slightly higher for something special

Any good links for cases, something sci-fi-ish:D
AMD is just better value for money ATM. Depending on some specials going on. Wootware had a GTX750Ti for 2.2k a while back, that was a very good deal.

What's your budget on a case? Aerocool makes same sci-fi-ish cases :p

I sorta didn't have a choice.. the only pc hardware place on my way home is Computer Corporation.. they only had 450w and then 750w. Given the prices I was looking at online for the 650w, I thought 999 was a really good price, so I decided to just go for it..

Didn't really want to go shopping around, since I needed my pc up and running as quickly as possible.

If it works then no problems.

Well, at least now I know I can kit out my pc with some additional internal drives.. was planning to buy an ssd and have 2 additional drives.. now i can possibly fit in a 3rd internal... i'm a bit of a hoarder :p

The PSU would still be overkill though.
Even a 650w is ample power to run multiple devices.

Yeah, HDDs don't take a lot of power at all. GPUs the most, then the CPU. The rest will be very small amounts.

Just a quick question, anyone got any ideas on the AMD A10 apu? I heard previous models ( A8 etc ) weren't that great but the a10 is actually very decent.

Usage is for media and gaming.

For media is great. Gaming you're looking at games like Dota and other less GPU intensive games. You'll also not be playing on 1080p either (you can, but it won't be great). There are loads of reviews out there, go check them out for the latest A10 models. Usually it works out better getting a cheaper Intel CPU and GPU to give the same or better performance than the most expensive A10.

EmileS,

R9 270 vs HD 7870?

Cant seem to find any major differences
Nope, no mayor difference. If you can find a HD7870 on a very good deal then take it. Otherwise the R9 270 would be perfect.

I have a huge case (Coolermaster Sniper) in the living room that I am trying to hide/get rid of

Thinking of getting this and stuffing it in my TV stand to keep it out of the way of everything else:

Problem is...I don't know how much heat the case will generate as the TV stand has a...cupboard with a door. You guys think its a "no go"?

Really really need to hide my PC case...

Ok nevermind, I was hoping to pair it with my discrete card but it appears hybrid crossfire will only work with a card on similar a level to the APU's gfx. Anything more powerful completely ignores the apu. Oh well. I'll just wait for the release of mantle to see whether I stay with AMD or move to intel.
