The board does have 3 fan controllers, RGB controller and it looks pretty nice as well.
Yeah but pretty sure I will be using a commander pro or node pro from corsair which should take care of that for me.

I'm really struggling to see the benefit from paying R1k more.

On a side note with X570 supporting PCIe 4.0 - is there anything out now that supports it? Or is it for future upgrades if GPU etc?

So I have decided against the ASUS Strix Board (even tho my previous board was a strix and never had any issues) but all the forums online say its not the best board to go for.

Now am deciding between:

MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon

or

Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro and Elite have the same PCB and VRM design from what I can get from the Gigabyte website. From what Steve was saying in the video, the Gigabyte board crashed a few times during testing while being at the bottom of the charts for all the temperature testing. For me, I wouldn't want to put a new Ryzen 3000 CPU into the previous generation Gigabyte boards (B450 / X570).

Gigabyte also got caught up in some controversy about how they were marketing their B450 \ X470 range....having said that, their X570 stuff looks amazing. They must have learned some lessons.

The only issue is I see the X570 boards starting at around R4k upwards.

If I can get a board for half that price that will work to me is the way to go :). But then again I don't know what benefits PCIe 4.0 etc will bring to the hardware I already have.

Nothing...the extra PCIE bandwidth doesn't have any benefit for hardware already on the market. There was a PCIE card demo'd at Computex (or later) with raid'd m.2 SSD's that offered nuts read\write speeds but that was about it.

I also looked at what I would get if upgrading to Ryzen 3000 and decided on the B450 Tomahawk. That was just musing though...I'll wait till someone puts out a review testing the new CPU's on older boards (especially with overclocking in mind).

My plan was to wait for new CPU before getting anything but these boards on special now. Have a feeling the prices will go back to normal and stay there for a while when X570 comes out as they will be pricey.

So either wait and pay more or get one now.

I was gonna spend R2.5k on a board but obviously trying to get the best I can the cheapest I can hence why the Aorus board caught my attention.

Raiding 2 M.2. don't give me ideas

The Tomahawk is cheap...it's not blingy (which I like) and that means it's cheaper than a worse board for overclocking like the Gaming Pro Carbon AC.

I also think the prices for B450 and X470 boards might go up next month but I'm betting the people into light shows will skip the Tomahawk :p

The Ryzen rush next month is probably going to be nuts - I'll be skipping all that and upgrading later.

Yeah I need to get a new board and CPU as I've sold mine already and using a laptop (which isn't ideal at all).

Have you got a link to the tomahawk? Is it better than the Gigabyte Aorus one?

Future plans is to custom Waterloop so flash mobo isn't massive concern as will most likely become missing my then if I do it right :)

All depending on prices and performance will know if I go 2600/2700 x or new gen.

I would take that over the Gigabyte no question. All I look for is solid power delivery though - you may have different requirements.

I know looks doesn't give anything but for R300 I'd rather go for something that looks semi decent at same'ish performance.

Why must this be so confusing.
Yeah I know. The Asrock isn't really aesthetically pleasing. My buddy said me paying R300 more on the mobo and R400 more on RAM cause it looked better was madness.
Then again I've swapped bought entirely new DVD writers back when they were R900 cause the button didn't match my case.

Hahaha we all have that problem - I'm in the same boat.

That's why the Asus strix was my first choice originally as it looks great and was priced under R2.5k but after reading online it made me not so sure anymore.

Now I'm in same boat - take the auros and save or spend more on something else. Coming from someone who always said take the cheapest board that does what you want.

There's a R500 more price difference over the Gigabyte and only R300 difference to the Carbon Pro - is the tomahawk really the best one between those?

Yes...but that's my opinion based on what I look for. Your money, your problem :D

Hahaha just throwing more into the mix of confusion and undecitefulness.
Yeah though I do like the black of the Asrock board. But without the shielding and does look a bit bare.
