Now is an interesting time to buy. We are on the cusp of new tech being announced or released, but the Rand also tanked and some places haven't raised their prices yet.

I agree that X570 with AMD is the way to go, that way you can easily upgrade to 4000 if it's much better.
While intel 10th gen isn't that big an improvement over 9th gen, but they will have more cores. I'm still of the opinion that if you want longevity and Intel, you buy the i9 9900K or nothing.

The 3700X doesn't seem that much more expensive than it was, but good luck finding a decent motherboard at an decent price.
Thanks for the input. Was dead set on the i7-9700k which should still actually be good enough for some time to come but I am lookin at the X570 and Ryzen 7

Is the Asus Prime X570-Pro a good board?

Enhanced power solution: 12+2 DrMOS power stages, ProCool connectors, alloy chokes and durable capacitors for stable power delivery

Yes looks like it has good VRM to support the cpu.

My x370 gaming k7 only has 6+4 phase vrm, but my 3700x is doing just fine.

Awesome! Thanks a million.

Why buy old technology? Just makes no sense.

Besides, what Intel has done in the 10th gen is moved price categories down. In other words, you get more for your money with 10th gen.

Yeah 10th gen is not much of an improvement over 9th gen, but I'd still rather have 10th gen.

@Krypt0n1te

Just bear in mind that games won't really be any faster on a 3900X compared to a 3700X. A 3700X is only a little faster in games than a 3600 despite costing nearly twice as much.

Thanks! Still reading up and just realized it.
I think to go for the top 3800x is actually much better than going for the 3900x as the extra cores will most definitely not be needed for gaming.

Your opinion on the Asus Prime X570-Pro?

If you want to buy Intel and want to buy now.

It seems to be, yes.

I used this video to help my decision back in the day:

Personally I don't think the 3800X adds enough over the 3700X to be worth the extra money.

The Asus Prime X570-Pro should be a good board. I used to own the Asus Prime X370 Pro which was a good board. No doubt the X570 version of that is pretty good too.

Noted! Thanks. (:

I would personally get a 1600af for now, upgrade to the 4000 series later in the year when released and then sell the 1600af.

Run into another issue, my headset, has one of the new single plug for for audio and microphone. Do they make splitters, from this single plug to separate audio and microphone mini jacks, so far I am running into the reverse version of what I need, i.e. from a double to a single adapter. My PC case still has separate audio and microphone plugs.

Mines the opposite :-). I've got one cheapie I got from Cash Crusaders and it's got the single port but it came with a a a splitter, the second cheapie I got from Takealot said it did come with one, but it didn't sigh.

Similar - X570 still looks hella expensive for what it delivers - I wouldn't buy anything unless I absolutely had to. 16th June is the launch date for B550 - I'd wait till then and see what's what.

Almost 5k for something basic to plug a CPU, GPU etc. into is madness.

So PC arrived today, ty all for help. Busy assembling, and I've realised that my Sabrent nmve 4.0 1TB SSD came without a heatsink, and my asus motherboard doesn't have it pre-done. Is this a thing? Should I stress about it? Only using PC for gaming pretty much.
