The PC Build Thread

What/where is the best place (Cape Town area ideally) to use for a custom/gaming PC build? Any recommendations?

Likelihood is quite high, almost guaranteed, but you'll be running it at 2400 even though the module is capable of more.

I'm happy to run it at 2400MHz, the 2600 set is somehow cheaper than the 2400 ones.

Is there a way to know for sure that it will woek before buying?

There are always uncertainties with regards to memory and motherboard compatibility. That's the only reason I did not say it's guaranteed to work. It becomes more uncertain as you mix up memory brands, chip manufacturers and frequencies.

That said, given your situation and your choice of module, I'd go ahead and buy it with reasonable confidence. There might be better options though, I didn't look much into it.

Can I use this ram: https://raru.co.za/electronics/6091009-crucial-8gb-ddr4-2666mhz-memory-module

In this PC: https://www.lenovo.com/za/en/deskto...tower/Lenovo-V520-15IKL-Desktop/p/11LV1VDV520

The PC is designed for 2400MHz ram, can I safely use 2666MHz ram? Also, what would I need to do to make it work?

According to the Crucial Website it is compatible:-

Don't know if this is the right spot to ask but here goes:
Just had two SE2419HR Dells delivered from wootware (https://www.wootware.co.za/dell-se2...5hz-5ms-ips-amd-freesync-desktop-monitor.html)
Reason for the buy was 75Hz and Freesync. I run a RX 580 card.
Since installing them they have flickered, every time I "change view" I has made something like video conferencing impossible as the screens are flickering so much I cannot look at them.
I have installed the latest Radeon drivers, latest Dell Drivers, set the refresh rate manually (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/dh-005) and toggled the FreeSync toggle on and off it just doesn't make any difference.
I even reset all teh Radeon setting to default!
I'm tempted to return the displays and go back to my old, perfectly serviceable Dells.
Can anyone help? Google isn't very helpful in this

I have a fairly decent specced Acer i5 2430, 8gb ram, unit is pretty fast.

Staff member dropped it and damaged the screen, off it's hinges but does work with an external monitor.

Can I remove the screen completely as in snip the cables and still use it with an external or is it going to give grief?
Want to give it to my kids to use for their homework.
I'm guessing I should keep the wifi cable.

Was wanting to remove the plastic case altogether , diy project, mount the motherboard, battery etc on a piece of wood.

Still working from home so bored.

Anyone have this monitor ? I read mixed reviews on it. Some people love it, and others say it's not that good. Anyone with it - what are your thoughts, and are there better alternatives in your opinion. I want 1440p - not HD

Also in the market for 1440p 144hz.
Just discovered this LG 27GL850 , but so sad it's not available here in SA. The Dell S2719DG is the only other one that's readily available.

I have one...it's a solid monitor. Looks good next to the Dell IPS screen on my desk (color reproduction and black levels are good enough for me).

The little profile management app is useful...being able to switch to higher colour saturation / strong overdrive with a right-click before launching CSGO is great.
