The PC Build Thread

Hey Guys, not much of a hardware guy, so before I make the purchase would really appreciate some input/advice on this build.

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
MB: ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4/AC
RAM: Teamgroup Dark Z 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3600MHz CL18
GPU: Palit GeForce RTX 3070
Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK 120mm
Case: Phanteks PH-EC400ATG_DBK01 Eclipse P400A

PSU(750w) & HDD will be using from my current pc

Thanks for any input & advice
Looks good.

Parts from Wootware, yeah? Try to massage in an SSD for the OS somewhere if you can manage it (unless by HDD you meant storage in general and already have an SSD). And an extra fan for rear exhaust if that case doesn't come with one (I dunno if that's the digital one).

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!

Sorry for the vague information, I was generalizing with HDDs I'll be using 2 SSDs, the PSU I planned to re-use is a Cooler Master GX750 about 5 years old, however I'm going to add in a new PSU

Thanks for pointing out the exhaust fan, going to add that to the list and yes it's all from wootware.

Any suggestions for a PSU for this build?

I got a Super Flower 650W Gold running a very similar PC, except I have a 3700X and it runs perfectly. I would recommend a better CPU cooler though, the strock Wraith Prism that came with the 3700X got quite toasty. Not sure if it's the same design for the 5600X but I assume it is.

He did spec a different cooler, Phanteks PH-TC12DX

Why replace a working PSU?

They aren't rare or in short supply nor have there been huge changes in the underlying tech.

Use what you have till it breaks or there is a really good reason to change it, I say.

Depends on the price,. difference - I'd get the OC model from the ones below (not punting Giagabyte's card, it was the only one that had a couple variants with pricing available).

Not for OC bit particularly but I'd expect the bigger heatsink and extra fan to make it a quieter card. Also the way boost algorithms work in GPU's and CPU's nowadays, a card with better cooling would boost higher all things being equal. Worth 300 bucks to find out.
I see, thank you.

Anyone seen the Gigabyte Vision 3080s in stock on Wootware? Wondering what the price is. Managed to snag the Gigabyte 3080 Eagle OC but would prefer another card if it pops in stock before next week. (Also the Vision 3080 looks a lot nicer IMO)

out of stock. brutech got them listed for 19999 on backorder

I like the colored strip of metal on the inside of the NZXT cases. It’s a nice aesthetic. And then it’s clean and plain on the outside, so just enough to be pleasing to the eye but not distracting.

Wanted a micro ATX case because with nvme drives in and optical disc drives vanishing, why are huge cases even a thing anymore?

Last item I require for my build besides a MX Master 3 mouse. It fixed the fiddly thumb button arrangement of the 2S so I’m all over that.

Thermals.
Moved from a Corsair 400C Atx case to the Phanteks 500A E-Atx case.

Thermals are a lot more acceptable

Airflow is amazing in the 500A. Would recommend to anyone looking for great airflow and easy cable management. It's just a great buy for the money

Don't pay much attention to thermals but I guess it's time I schooled myself.

"It's got lots of fans and mesh so it's okay"

Depends on the setup you've got as well.

If you have high end/high powered components, they tend to get a bit hot. This is where you'd want good temps and proper airflow.

Once you've decided you need better airflow, you need to get a good balance of fans. Intake vs exhaust..

There's so many youtube videos to go check out.

Heck, then when you got the correct fan layout and amount needed. You've got to make sure you install the correct one's.
Static pressure fans for radiators and mesh, airflow fans to move a lot of air in open spaces etc.

It's all fun stuff

Seems cheaper, the one I got off Wootware was 20k so I assume the vision would be like 21k on Wootware since it's apparently a more higher end card. Ordered the rest of my parts earlier so I just decided to grab the first 3080 that popped back in stock rather than waiting indefinitely (except for the GameRock one that thing is ugly)
