I got the 3060. I know its not a wowzer card but I just needed something decent and did NOT want to pay R20k for a GPU or something old and super overpriced. The R7k 1660supers are also very average.

Overall quite happy. I don't feel a downgrade from my 2070s I previously had.
Mainly play Apex and I get a solid 144 FPS @ 1440p medium settings. I could probably put the settings higher but prefer less detail (easier to see people). My 2070s was the same.
Also tried Cyberpunk and after 30 mins of gameplay, again, felt good a 1440p DLSS on High settings. Not sure of FPS but was smooth. I don't monitor FPS on non-competitive games unless its performing badly.

So long x8 or higher slot so far as I know with monitor attached. So can use hdmi dummy.plug and those boards that has all pcie x16 slote

Looking at this exact system but I already have an SSD so might rather opt for an additional fan / cooling solution. Any recommendations ? Want to add the 3060 and eventually upgrade the GPU in a couple of years
 
Ok so one of my front fans is dying making some whining noise when at full speed. Any gfans you guys can recommend it only have to be 1 but if I can get 3 fans/3 pack for a great deal will go for than. Doesn't have to be RGB. must be 120mm. Also looking for 2x 140mm fans

Wait you upgraded from a 2070s to a 3060? They are basically matched? I mean even the 2060 super is only a few frames short of the 3060. Why did you get a 3060?
Scary I paid 7k last year for my 2060 super and I paid just under 5.5k on my 1660ti in 2019.

Nope. Took a short break from gaming at the worst time. I paid R8k for my 2070s and sold it for R8k a year later. I thought I got a good deal lol. Hurt like hell paying R10500 for an inferior card a month later.

Still though, for the market, the (cheaper) 3060's are pretty good. Not 3070 amazing, but it's not a complete turd.
Actually, I don't see a reason to pay double for a 3070 unless you trying to push 4k or 1440p 165Hz with everything on Ultra. Most competitive games that you want at 165Hz, you will likely dial back the settings for better visibility and the 3060 will handle at 1440p without issue.

Ah I see that makes sense, thought you'd bought one and swapped it.
Though after my a series X I've not really played on my PC that much.
 
Need advise please.

My knowledge of PC's and building them are very limited. I currently have a PC that my friend build for me many years ago, +- 9 years and the motherboard has taken her last breath (according to Computer Mania). Most of the parts are very old and I don't think it will be compatible with today's standards.

So with that in mind, I'm looking to buy a new PC for mostly gaming and I'm studying programming part time. I don't have a need to play games on the high settings, so long as it is playable. Games I'm currently playing are Diablo 3, Warframe and occasionally Batman Arkhame Knight or Far Cry 3. I would love to be able to play The Witcher 3 and RDR2. My budget is MAX R15k, I have all of the peripherals, so I only need to PC.

I have no idea where to start (unfortunately I lost contact with the friend who build the first one) and would appreciate any assistance from here.

What power supply, case and graphics card are in your existing PC?

Uhm I'm not really sure, as I mentioned my knowledge is very limited. The graphics card is an Asus (no clue which one), but it has a DVI and VGA connectors, so that might put it in to perspective of how old it is.

I don't think I will be able to use the case again. It's rusted in places (it's been gathering dust for more than a year, the motherboard died Dec2019, I've been saving since then)

The power supply is a 600w Power Man.

RDR2 is a pretty demanding title.

R15k is a tight budget with the prices that went through the roof.

I scratched around a bit and R15k should get you a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz RAM, B550 Motherboard, GTX1660Super GPU, Case & PSU which is all pretty decent but leaves you without an SSD or HDD. EDIT: The 1660Super is out of stock

An Intel i5 11400F build might work out cheaper but they are so new pricing is scares.

When do you want to order? I could always check multiple sites and try to ship away at the price when you're ready to pull the trigger.

Is the SSD absolutely neccesary? Doesn't that just affect the boot times and can I add that later? One other thing, I have a windows key on my old PC, but no idea how to access it. How would I get that, or would I need to purchase a windows key?

I would like to buy between end of next week and end of the month (that's when the funds should be available).

An SSD is probably the biggest performance improvement you can make to your system. Doesn't really make game performance faster, but general system performance, load times, general responsiveness - it's a no-brainer.

Seriously, I'd rather have a slow processor and an SSD, than a fast processor and an HDD.

SSD is not 'necessary' but it makes a HUGE difference to overall performance. Not sure about the windows key, was it Win10?

Yes it was Windows 10. Since I didn't have a SSD in my old build, it should be on the HDD right? (I can't stress how limited my knowledge, sorry :) )

Would I need a big SSD if I only use that for the OS and keep all the rest on my HDD? I quickly goodled and I see a few 256gb SSD under R900, but I have no idea if that is good or not. If push comes to shove, I can add an additional grand if needed, will just have to stay sober for the month lol. Edit: (Last part is just a joke, I don't even drink close to a grand a month)
