I would have thought that kind of accidental damage would only be covered by all risks cover, is that normal for a household policy?

I have a household policy with Santam, if I run past my laptop and trip over the charger pulling it off the table and it gets smashed on the floor will they cover the repair or replacement?
Possibly yeah, unless your insurance is only for theft and fire. All risk for me is generally for things taken outside the house.

I installed hof today for client, it's massive!!! Really good card!
So I installed the hof as well today in a p400a case with stock fans front and 1x back fan but I don't know why the card is runing so hot compared to my palit gamerock. It goes to 70-75C even on max fan speed. My palit runs on the same test 60-70C

HOF = Hot as F***? Ergo, working as intended?

Hall of Flame

I would have thought they learned from mistakes and maybe it was only me but my 980 ti HOF also ran extremely hot. Hotter than other cards. So guess The hof is not such a great card but at least it's not actually reaching 80C in normal gaming. My brother was playing some games at was reaching 75C.

What I will do is ask him to open the side panel and while playing the exact same game to see if temps drop.

What type of cooler does it have? Also what's the temperature if you let it manage the fans?

Wait it was only hitting 75 degrees while gaming? That's not that high, was it thermal throttling?

75C is not even close to being hot. At that temp it's probably not even running the fans at more than half speed.

That's not that hot and it's really not that hot when you look at the card's power limits. You can try a custom power curve if the fans are bugging you.

He said the fans were at 100%...I assume with a manual fan curve.
In which case it's not good. Fans at 100% should be 10C lower at minimum. May need to check the exhaust, the surrounding environment could be too hot.

What are the VRM and CPU temps?

cpu temps is about 65C on full load using an air cooler so maybe that's the issue. I can also feel some hot air at the top back vent so I told my brother to try and remove side panel and if temps drop then it's a case airflow issue. I was thinking of adding an exhaust fan at the top back of the case.

The card has a button on the back to force it to max fan speed but the card was reaching better clock speeds and I also upped the power limit to 450w but the power was more consistent at 440-450w so I think the extra airflow is helping.. My brother had set the power limit down to like 100%(400w) and now seeing 75C while letting the fan manage the fan. so I think it should be just fine. HGe told me reaching 400w while playing games.

One thing I noticed compared to my card is that I see more consistent clock speed and I think it might be because of the power delivery on the card might be a bit better.

From what I know of the hof cards they really push the power limits way past the aib standards thus hotter temps. Years ago I had a galax gtx 960 ranked second fasted in the world and at that power curve it did run a bit hot for a two fan card.

Correct they really push power limits for higher boost. My friends 3080ti palit struggling to boost as not pulling enough power, but his talking to wootware to see if the bios to increase the power .

Clutching at straws here, but assume it's a 2x8 pin, so is he using 2 cables or a 1x8/2+6 daisy chain?

Edit: just checked and it's a 3x8 pin, so very thirsty. 3x cables should feed it nicely, avoid daisy-chaining as it can mess with power delivery.

no he bought a super flower leadex III 850w with 3x seperate cables coming from the psu

Is the extra performance of the 3060 Ti worth the extra 3k over a regular 3060? What do you guys think?
The 3060 Ti is much closer to the 3070 than the regular 3060 actually. It depends on what type of games you play and resolutions, but I think the sweet spot between the 3 (and to answer your question) would be the 3060 Ti. I'm also looking at getting one, but I'm waiting for the price to come down some more. The launch price (Jan 2021) for the 3060 Ti was around R10k - R11K so the 3060 should cost around the R7K - R8K range. Prices are coming down every 2 weeks and will continue (hopefully).

Some comparisons:

TLDR - I'd go with the RTX 3060 Ti, but it's your money
