Maybe try https://www.wootware.co.za/contacts

If there's one thing about wootware that I don't like it's that you can't phone them.

Parts arrived yesterday. It's 1AM now and have finished assembling. Busy installing windows. I'll post some pics once I clean the cabling up inside and it's all finished installation. Bed soon though.

Okay it's been 7 hours, 25 minutes. Let's see her.

Current build:

Ryzen 5 1600 (1st gen Zen)
AB350 Motherboard
16GB DDR4 2400 MHz
1050ti GPU

Intend going to:

B660 Motherboard : https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-TUF-B660M-PLUS-Motherboard-Cancelation/dp/B09NWC8BZX/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1DXKIF8DOQMOF&keywords=b660+motherboard&qid=1655886828&sprefix=B660,aps,473&sr=8-4

I5 12400f: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-12400F-Desktop-Processor-Cache/dp/B09NPJRDGD/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=i5+12400f&qid=1655887032&sprefix=i5+12,aps,648&sr=8-2

*Wanted to keep the DDR4 - not sure if too old / slow?

and 3070 : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098Q4M4WH?tag=nismain-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

I'm sorted with case, PSU, HDD etc. Total of $929, 00 ex sales tax. What do you guys think?

Just a side note - My PC is in study connected to Dell 27 144hz 1440p via DisplayPort. I would like to run cables to the lounge and possibly my bedroom. Was thinking about getting two of these - https://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Optic-Cable-18Gbps-Supports/dp/B096YZFFN7/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=hdmi+fiber+cable&qid=1655887303&sprefix=HDMI+fibre+,aps,418&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNTROM0MyQ0FJN0RIJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTU4NDYxM0dTMFFISVBTRFgzMSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDIwMjUwMUNFSzlRUElEMDBUUSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

My TVs in the lounge and bedroom are 4k 60hz, but I thought it would be nice to play some casuals on the couch/bed. I assume I could run a USB extension cable to BT adapter in the ceilings over the two rooms for Xbox remote to connect? Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

Not sure how much of an issue money is, but you should be able to pop a 5000-series AMD CPU in there without needing to replace the motherboard.

For gaming, you'd be better off just updating the BIOS to the latest AGESA version (which should make that motherboard support the latest processors) and then getting a 5800X3D and faster RAM, with something like a 3080.

I'd wager that would work out cheaper.

Thanks so much.

Was considering a 5600X build, but I thought I would need to go for a B550 with it so thought I would consider changing teams to 12th gen. For the BIOS update you mention, is that where I need to borrow a CPU to do the update before the 5600X goes in? I read briefly about something about that. If I could get away with keeping the motherboard, I could consider:

Ryzen 5 5600X - $199
DDR4 3600 32GB - $140
3080 for $789 or a 6800 for $699

So 6800 build would be $1039 and 3080 build $1129.

You can do the firmware with your current CPU, don't need another one to do it.

I'm not 100% sure that board supports 5000-series, they're working on compatibility but I can't say for sure on that exact motherboard. Some Googling might tell you.

I'm second guessing myself here, but it may actually be worth just going for a new build. You'll have new, faster parts, warranty etc. Only thing is the GPU is the biggest factor for gaming and the 3080 is a fair chunk better than the 3070.

If the 5600x isn't much more than the 5600 sure, but if the 5600 is cheaper get that, it's 2.2% slower than the 5600x in most benchmarks and games, for a B350 you should be able to handle a 5600 with a newer firmware, though you might need to double check the board doesn't remove the support for the 1600 in flashing.

:crying: My R9 380 GPU kakked this past weekend. I found the thermal paste turned into Sahara sand. Applied new paste, still nothing but boot screen. Fans dont even come on. Good 7 years it gave. My pc is 10 years old. Sadly I opted for a discreet mobo back then. Feels like everything is hanging on threads. Plex server still works, just no picture on pc monitor. Think it's time for an upgrade.
I see atWootware I can get away for under R6k for 5600g + mobo + 16GB. Then just later add gpu.

That's a pretty tasty setup honestly, especially at that price.

Thanks so much for your advice. I see the board will take the 5600. And thanks @Lupus for the advice on the 5600 vs 5600x. Appreciate it. The board will last a couple more years and I can get a better GPU. Can anyone confirm my idea / add any input on the fibre HDMI to other rooms with USB to BT dongles in the ceiling?

Sorry man, no experience with that and wouldn't want to give you kak advice.

I repaste every 2yrs as it goes dry and hard, afterwards it runs cooler which hopefully helps with longevity.

What's the exact make/model of the MB or a link to the manufacturers site?

Secondly what is the current bios version of the MB?

Can anyone suggest a decent laptop for gaming and for general work and coding? I have a good gaming desktop but need something for travelling and light gaming when I'm out. Budget around 17k but willing, if it's worth it, to push to 20k. I don't need 4k and those 300hz screens but do need at least 16gb of ram and maybe 1tb SSD. Thanks!

Define light gaming?

It's a GIGABYTE GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0) AM4 AMD B350 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. I see it's still on a BIOS from 2017. Haha. I'm thinking I will squeeze my budget for a new board.

I see there's a 6900xt for $899, 00 with sales tax comes to R15 602, 00, which from what I can see is a pretty decent deal? I have a gsync monitor, but I don't imagine I will have any tearing with that?

Edit: will need a new power supply, only have: EVGA 650 B3, 80 Plus BRONZE 650W, Fully Modular, EVGA ECO Mode, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-B3-0650-V1

Be careful with bios updates, you can't just jump to the latest version, first update to F31 then F40 and only then the latest.

I would not bother with a new MB as it will do nothing for performance, rather use the money on something else.
