How much more do you guys think prices on RTX 3080's should come down before it's fair value?

^^Prices are from Wootware.

Depends how you judge value - going by the numbers, it's not a good value but there's always a premium as you go up tiers. So it comes down to how much the buyer is willing to part with, I guess.

A 3060 Ti is 72% faster than a 3050 (according to techpowerup's GPU database) and costs 60% more (using woot's lowest price for available cards). So that looks kinda OK - you're getting more FPS per dollar by spending more.
A 3080 is 52% faster than a 3060 Ti and costs 80% more - that does not look OK.

Basically, if you absolutely need the performance, there's not much you can do except get the credit card and lube out. But if you can get away with not upgrading, then leave it.

Those 10gb versions still have room to come down, they should be hitting R14K in the next month or 2, the Galax 3080 is already at R14499
Well I guess that also depends on what the rand does going forward.

Well... considering that the 4070 will probably be slightly faster and will have a similar MSRP to the 3070.... I would pay R11 - 12K for one.
Unless my current GPU died, then I suppose R15 600 would have to do.

Yep prices def going up again, hence grabbed my 3080 so long. Though need to up my cpu or overclock to keep up with it. One day when evetech sends my cooler I can see what the chip can do

What CPU are you running? If GPU prices are going up I would imagine or hope that is a temporary thing

You'll be able to tell by the pattern of the thermal paste on the CPU and bottom of the cooler - might be incorrectly spread around, too thin in an area etc.

A 1g tube is a few application, probably 3 or 4 I think.

Could be a bad mechanism, hard to say without seeing the PC.

So the culprit to my heat issues has been found. In removing the Intel RM1 stock cooler it was discovered that the one push pin was not secured properly (thanks Rectron!).

I had resolved to get another cooler that would run quieter so the above was discovered when installing the new cooler. Happened upon the Antec A400i RGB CPU cooler, after delivery and insurance the total was R521.95.

Running GTA 5 with the old poorly mounted intel cooler vs the new antec cooler was night and day of course.

This evening I played some insurgency: sandstorm, dying light 2, aliens: fireteam elite, CPU temp was generally lower than 50 degrees, mid to low forties mostly. New cooler RPM is at 50% mostly, around 950RPM. Old cooler was often at 2900RPM due to overheating / poor mounting...

Oh, lastly, the Antec A400i did fit inside the case with a couple of mm to spare, even though the height is supposedly 155mm and the case spec sheet states it can only take a cpu cooler with a max height of 150mm.

Also realised the window on my side panel was scratched to high heaven at the top of the window (never noticed the scratches before as I often had my side panel off or whenever I took pics it was off), once again thanks Rectron!

Big changes in cpu temp there

Excellent results man, good job.
Thanks, I had help from a friend, so we could get it done in an hour and a bit (and done properly) instead of struggling for hours on my own (mobo, gfx card had to be loosened, top mounted fan had to come out, so that the lga 1700 conversion back plate could be mounted.

So my great luck, after replacing my board, cpu and cooler that I damaged 3 weeks ago, my 1070Ti decided to **** the bed last night.

So looking at replacing with a 3070.
Prices have gone way down, I see some for R10k, one out of stock at R9100.
Seems both Wootware and Evetech (for comparisons sake, I know we don't use that word here) are waiting on a new shipment.
Pre-orders for this Palit that apparently OC's very well to near 3070Ti level, but only arrives the 26th.

Do I wait it out or any other suggestions from you helpful folk?

Current specs: i5-12600KF, 16GB DDR4-3200, 550-watt Silver PSU.
